Maybe the reason was that HUGE beer keg on wheels in the background?

Not sure about were you are from, but around here, a giant keg of beer is not the way to go if you want to drive people away!

AND, for those of us who have been/are "yachties", you have to be a millionaire to own a sailboat too... right?

I saw an Airstream when I was walking through a campground this summer so I stopped to say hello to the owners who were out with their dog. I asked them if they belonged to the WBCCI and they told me no because they thought you had to have a mink coat and diamonds to be part of that club! :P

Gee, I don't recall any minks at the last rally...

Why is it people think your rich if you have nice things? I figure if I'm going to buy something, I'm going to do it right and get the nicest thing I can afford (like an Airstream), instead of getting some cheap SOB and replacing it five years down the line. I'm not rich, just smart.

Besides, people think we're rich when they see our Corvette, even though it cost less than thier Honda (and you could buy four of them for the price of a new Suburban)! And don't they know, even if you had the money to buy it, you're poor when it gets through with you!

Airstreams, generally speaking, "are not purchased by rich people."

BUT, they are purchased by a smart buyer that knows a quality product that lasts more than a decade or two.

They also know, that they can buy an Airstream that has been neglected and/or abused, and that it can be returned to it's original condition, or better, primarily because of it's original modified monocoque design.

That same smart buyer also knows that many of the original parts are still available.

Not so, for the SOB.

Havent gotten many comments on the Argosy so far. One couple asked as they walked by if it was fiberglass. They were surprised to hear it was Aluminum.

This past weekend we were camping with the inlaws at Beverly Beach on the Oregon coast. It is just south of Depot Bay. My father inlaw has a '77 (25'?) land yacht. He bought a old 1955 Ford C60 for $600 that was sitting in someones field. He completely restored it and turned it into a dedicated tow vehicle. Four people came by over the the two days we were there to take pictures of the set up. that was in addition to the half dozen that came by to chat about it.

Most of the people I work with are a lot younger than I am (I admit I'm 46, and they are all lates 20s and early 30s) When I was looking for an Airstream, none of them had really ever noticed them before, but one of the guys would keep a watch for me when he all the sudden began "seeing" them for sale in people's yards, etc.
Even people my own age (must be the people I hang around with) say "an Airstream, what do you mean?'
They thunk I'm weird, but I'm pretty sure it's "good" weird!!

Yeah, right...

We were at a rally this weekend, there were about twenty of us. I overheard a couple talking in the community room talking about all the Airstreams at the campground. The best comment was, "Wow, I never saw so many millionaires in one place!"

Even though it was far from true, it made me smile...

I saw a trailer video, I forgot its name, that showed a hugh meeting of the WBCCI where they voted against letting Airstream B class van conversions into the club.

Some poor old lady was explaining to the group how when you get really old, you can't hitch and unhitch trailers, etc anymore and that they had to get something more managable.

The vote was against them. Pretty cold bunch.
