What is your source for movies in your AS?

Are you using mainly DVDs or Netflix? Apple TV, Roku or satellite? Thanks!

Have no use for a television in my trailer. If I did I would use netflix, works well at home.

Same as at home, as I have compressed all our media (music, photos, TV and movies) to digital.

In the house everything is stored and mirrored on a 8TB NAS server, and each TV in the house has a Lenovo Q190 PC (they are only about $250) that acts as a streaming host (either to the NAS or any of the on-line sources) - I use iTunes to manage the NAS content.

For away from home, I carry a 2TB portable hard drive that holds a mirror of all my music, all my photos, and a sub-selection of TV and movies as well as a copy of my iTunes library.

The MH also has a Q190 mounted to the TV, so we have all the streaming content we can connect to, plus I plug in my portable hard drive and have all the music, TV and movies we want, again managed in iTunes

Don't overlook Redbox if you are not out in the middle of nowhere.

iPad using Mac DVD Ripper Pro with dvd's from various places. And a Winegard PA2000R Pathway X1 with a Dish receiver. Home was on DirecTV but I switched totally over to DISH. Cost for the additional RX is $7. Works great. Easy setup. Note, buy this as the kit with the RX bundled in. Amazon. Campingworld is still selling them as two separate items. Much more expensive.

One downside to DISH is that DirecTv has the NFL package where you can get all of the games. Sole contract. Might explain why Dish isn't quite as popular in Broncos territory.

Netflix, Amazon Prime, iTunes, Apple TV's and our original home collection converted to digital. DVD's & BluRay take up a lot of space.

If you don't mind me asking what is the simplest way to hook an Apple TV into the Trailer system?
Thanks

Apple TV like Chromcast, or any streaming box, simply plug into the TV HDMI, but connect to the 'device' over a WiFi network. So with Apple TV you plug in the Apple TV box, connect the box to the WiFi, then the iPhone/iPad/iMedia enabled device 'casts', to the Apple TV when it connects again over WiFi.....note the requirement for WiFi....no connection, no use.

I have a second SD satellite receiver that the supplier 'gifted' to us. I bought a dish, hooked it up, and bingo: free & legal Standard Definition satellite reception in the TT, that delivers what I get at home, albeit in SD.

My problem with NetFlix is that it requires a good WiFi connection. In my experience, that is not always available. Plus, it does not give local news, and that I need to have.

That explanation is only half right. Unlike the chrome cast, the Apple TV does not need you to own an iPad or iPhone to work. It also doesn't need wifi, it just needs internet. It has a ethernet port in the rear. My Apple TV is hard wired at home for best streaming results.

Chromecast is Google's answer to AirPlay built into all Apple devices. It allows you to play whatever is on your device on the Apple TV.

The Roku is an appealing device, but we make use of Airplay pretty extensively.

Amazon's new entry is also very very appealing for the fact that it features Amazon Prime, but...... we can just Airplay the Amazon Prime app to the Apple TV.

I'm in the process of planning a complete Media Center upgrade for our Airstream, we don't watch "Cable TV" but we are movie watchers, and the offerings in the Airstream are pretty crappy. So working on a solution.

We just fill a few 16G USB sticks and plug them into the Bluray player.....which can be easily watched from either TV. Easy, ultra portable and no need for another device.

I should have added.....if you want to watch media from an Apple device on TV it is very easy. For example I have a iPhone 5s and iPad mini, both have a Lightning connector, and Apple do a Lighting to AV cable (Lightning Digital AV Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.)) which converts to HDMI and plugs in as any HDMI cable. I travel a lot for work and keep one in my laptop bag for use on hotel TVs.

Thanks for the clarification....I have never tried Ethernet on our home Apple TV.

I still like the 'PC on TV' approach as it does most things locally, but also able to do do all the typical remote stuff when available.

Interesting - I will be watching this as we are (also) not big cable or Sat TV fans. We normally carry a laptop and iPads with us in the Airstream so the Apple TV os a good option for us. We already operate an airport express in the trailer as we generate a WIFI network so the iPads can talk to a printer we carry while traveling. So watching movies from our iTunes libraries should be possible with the addition of the Apple TV. Or if we can access campground internet then Netflix would come into play as long as I could figure out how to route a WIFI signal coming into the trailer into the apple TV instead of our in-house network from our Airport.
Anyone know how I would do that?

Thanks

Doug

Wow - things change quickly.

When we first purchased our Airstream (not that long ago) all we had was a 4 inch black and white TV on the dinette hooked into the trailers aerial - worked great - we were happy.

We've moved on a little since then but nowhere near the kind of stuff I am reading in this thread - in addition to the now digital airwaves we have a large collection of DVD's and an even larger collection of other movies on an external hard-drive that we stream through our netbooks to the TV (now quite a bit bigger). If we are at a place where the WiFi connection is strong enough (a rare event) we will also use Netflix.
