Question "What is it?" #3 From Bat Cave

Here is a neat Airstream item, "What is it"?

I know, do you?

If you positively know what it is Just say "I know!" otherwise lets hear your best guesses.

Hint = never miss a ?

I know, I know...what do I win?

Richard, where do you keep getting these mysteries? You must have quite a collection by now.

Early attempt at improved antenna?

Early attempt at airfoile design for the hitch?

Splash guard for the sink, splatter guard for the stove?

I love this stuff, RichardT.

Don't positively know but my guess is that it's a removable step or platform to hold something heavy like two batteries. Hummm.. Rusty steel, no locking pin holes that I can see. Could it be an original A/S part or something fabricated by the P.O.

Well, I thought I knew but you guys are making me rethink my original idea which was a rear bumper step so one could reach the top.
