Good question -- I know there are a lot of classic heads that will recognize it. There should be a manufacturer's plate to the right of the door. The VIN number will be on that plate (or alternately, embossed onto the A-frame at trailer front). If you go to Airstream's FAQ link it will help you decode the Vin #.

You could also do a bit of checking photos at Vintage Airstream Photo Archives.

Post a reply to this thread if you find out anything -- thank's for getting involved and welcome to the Forums!

The number of end segments puts in the late 50's as does the door within a door and the style of windows. It looks like a California built...any guess as to the length? I would think something like a Tradewind but the window configuration isn' correct. Might be a custom

My guess would be 22' max. I don't want to jump the fence, dogs and shotguns scare me.

It looks a lot like a 58 Flying Cloud. Only the S/N will tell for sure. Throw the dogs some hamburger and wear your Ninja outfit.

S C Streamer:

I agree with markdoane, it looks like a 1957 or 1958 California built 22' Flying Cloud. The 7 end cap panels across the front and rear put it between 1957 to 1963, but the Hehr standard front window with the two vertical inside supports and the large fixed curb side front side window with the small operable window underneath narrows it to 1957 and 1958. The teardrop wheel well and the rear spare tire extended bumper both indicate California. The fridge roof vent was added later but does not detract from this good looking trailer.

After viewing the archives ,I found some close-very close matches in the '57-'58 FlyingClouds. Now I have to find the owners and ask if they want to sell.

I think it has some clean lines, good looking trailer. Thanks for you're help.

Mark

Mark -- cheese always works for the 'owners' at my house...

Conclusions are never exact but Vintage Airstream's Price vs. Condition can be a place to start. Your photos show the trailer to have a very nice exterior!

Most spare tire mounts I see at the Photo Archives are on the front tongue. Something to consider -- the rear bumper + spare tire are not original? Mounting a spare (or a bike or a storage container) at the rear bumper causes loads to amplify due to a moment arm effect when rolling down the road. Rear mounted anything is generally discouraged for lightly built Airstreams. Proof is in the doing -- who is to argue if it has been in regular use and there is no damage.

Ok more defined. Where in Santa Cruz County with redwood trees, humidity in the air, perhaps San Lorenzo Valley or Soquel. Jeff

47 Wee Wind,

FYI, I'm in Ca. and the trailer has original CA black Lic. plate. Good eye on the details, probably is a CA built.

Coastalview,

I'm not tellin' . Start in Soquel and fan out in circles

S C Streamer, don't worry, I'm not interested in another trailer. Just nice to see a few airstreams in our area. If you really look, there aren't many around the tri county area. Now that you mentioned Soquel, (just there last weekend) I'm thinking somewhere along Soquel-San Jose Road, as to the (other mystery) spot for this vintage trailer. Good luck in searching for the owner. I'm sure with my colleagues we could find the property owner through the APN parcel number. Jeff
