A Way of Life.....

Freedom.

The only RV brand I know of that has been all around the world.

One of the few brands at 50 or 60 years old that is still worth restoring and using.

There are certain products that do what they are meant to do supremely well. They may not be impossible to improve but they come closer to that Platonic ideal than any other product.

Those who respond to the technical aesthetic grok these products.

They include:

Airstream trailer

Zippo lighter

Chevrolet V8

Volkswagen Beetle

Barcelona chair

Workmate

Coke bottle

Snap On tools

It's worth noting that all these products exhibit form following function not function subordinate to form, and are notable for their simplicity.

I dont even own one yet... think this year is the one...

But it means several thing to me:
- classic american design and entrepreneurship (also think Leo Fender, Frank Lloyd Wright, Henry Ford)
- freedom from the everyday mundane
- family experiences I hope to have.

telebuck: we bought our used Class A about 2 years ago, and i suggest a fourth bullet (sorry, I use Powerpoint to much):
- meeting a wide range of wonderful people at A/S rallys, camp-outs, etc

we've really enjoyed this: wide range of people who are all friendly & nice. no knee-jerk political, class, or any other issues, its really great. Can help expand family experiences too.

As in good architecture, our Airstream is a perfect expression of purpose. It imitates nothing else and its materials represent themselves honestly. It is a work of art.

What Airstream means to me

It allows me to travel back to when I was growing up. For three wonderful years my dad worked for Airstream hauling new trailers from the Santa Fe Springs plant to dealers all over the western United States. I would spend all of my school vaciations and hollidays with my dad on the road. It was the best time I had growing up. Unfortunately Airstream decided that it was more cost effective to have a commercial carrier with car hauler trailers move three or four Airstream trailers at once than one at a time.
