I have the Zip Dee mat but I didn't know they were discontinued. It lets the water and dirt filter through along with some light for the grass. It also dries quickly. Too bad it was discontinued as it is a good product.

I wonder if another company makes a mat similar to the Zip Dee UltiMat.
The way I found out they were discontinued- I called them to inquire about pricing for the different sizes. I would have bought one today if they would have been available. Another question I was going to ask, but didn't get that far in the conversation- how heavey? How much heavier is the 20' vs. a 12'? It don't matter, now, do it?
I like Zip Dee products in general. I like my awning and my chairs, so I thought a blue Zip Dee mat would be the cat's meow.

EXCEPT here in the midwest. My Bro-in-law got one and the hickory nut husks stain the "foamy" Zip Dee mat badly. It looks really bad.

I use indoor/ outdoor for a mat also we have had 2 in 10 years and they have worked well for us from the pines to the desert or where ever we camp.It comes in a rolles so you can have what ever lenght you want.Mine is 24 feet long and I just roll it up.Note it is gray to match my Squarestream. Our first one Airstream blue.
. I just lay it out on my drive way and vacuum it then wash it off and it is like new.

I was going to build a teak or ipe wooden matt that would interlock, mainly for the area right in front of the step. Have spent 3 years refurbishing, not much camping. so we'll see.

We bought some of the material that is used for sun shad and is sold by the foot lite weight and comes in different colors.. UV resistant and will not soak up water. If it gets dirty soak in a bucket of water and rinse. That was about 12 years ago and still using it.

We bought a "military grade" camp mat from Amazon this season- CGear mat 10'x10' in blue which reverses to spring green. We have found it stores nicely in its own bag, worked in rain, dirt, grass, gravel. sand and most recently wet leaves. Shakes out camp dirt easily & dries quickly.

One day. when we rolled up a mat, I discovered this stuff under it. I found out it is called ground. Ever since then we've used that. I've found it to require much less set-up.

Yeah, but sometimes ground sends you inside with free samples that you really don't want😝

True, we don't carry a mat either. I have a smallish rectangle of stiff packing foam to protect my knee when I'm servicing the trailer drains, etc. It's recycled from Ghod knows what, but it works. Garden kneeling pad is another item that could work. I wack it on a tire to shake dirt and gravel off it and store it on the back of the TV with the rest of the ground tackle when we hit the road. I have a folding crate back there for hoses, cables, hitch tools, etc that we store in the AS when it's not in use.

My wife grew up in rural Iowa, therefore we are never allowed in the house or trailer with shoes on. When I need to kneel on the ground I have quite fashionable neon green "Croc" brand knee pads. If I tire of them, I also have a bright orange pair. I guess I should buy a scuffed up used skateboard and leave it by the door to complete my image.

Heh, my wife is Chinese--so wearing shoes into the house (or AS) will get you into a LOT of trouble around here. Dogs are not subject to this restriction, so I get to clean up after their muddy feet regularly. I've not managed to train them to wipe their feet either

A big mat is just not something I have room for with three people and 4 doggies aboard a 22 footer when we travel. So I keep the broom and dustpan handy. Clorox wipes are good for cleaning our vinyl floor, so that is what I use when it gets too dirty.

I have used the Zip Dee mat for the last 5 years and have been very happy with it. Too bad it was discontinued. I don't think Zip Dee manufactured the mats, but imported them. Prior to the Zip Dee mat's used indoor/outdoor carpet from a big box store.

What do you use for your patio mat/camp carpet?

I'm surprised that so few use a "proper" camping mat. We use something similar to FCloud9 explained....wouldn't leave home without it. It's a woven polypropylene material. They are inexpensive, very durable, dirt/sand falls right through, and they fold-up small.

We do not always use our large camp mat but minimally use a small "wipe your feet" mat at the steps. I think mat use is a carryover from our tenting days. Really keeps the indoor living area clean. Also, our 18 yr. old little poodle is blind and the 10 x 10 ft. mat seems to offer her a "safe zone" when we are living outdoors.

Ken

It doesn't really require a lot of time to throw out a limp rug.
It does require a little bit more planning when you break camp, though. You have to roll it up the day before you leave so you can put it up dry with no dew on it.

That may be correct, as the gentleman I spoke with said, "When we ran out we just didn't order anymore."
Where/who did they order them from? I should have asked. Maybe I should call back-

We use a nice mat we picked up at Camping World, very similar to this one:

http://m.campingworld.com/shopping/i...ee-brown/82058

It works nicely, is reversible, and cleans up easily. Loops and metal eyes for tent stakes to keep it down securely.
