The unofficial game of choice for the WBCCI seems to be the board/cards game called "JOKER".Is played in couples, two or three (4 or 6 people). It's usually played men against the women and can really bring out the "killer" instinct in the women. Rules and boards are available on EBAY. Just do a search.

I'm an electronic gamer so I always make sure my batteries are charged and I have back-up batteries, when needed! I have a small carry pack that I bring camping so if I want to play, I have everything I need. It is not a solitary endeavor either because I have the means to hookup with other games either using wires or thru wireless technology.

I also bring a copy of my latest magazines, the current book I'm reading and I always have a game of twister tucked away in a drawer.

This thread gets the Less Mundane award.

Great to stop and reflect on what one has been doing with their free time.
Dr. P spends her time grading math papers, crosswords (fanatical) and reading.
She has an interesting goal in literature selection, Pulitzer prize winners in fiction. I pick them up as she finishes. Almost always great reads. Since the awards cover Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Biography & History, there are a lot of choices.
You can review the list of fiction winners at http://www.powells.com/prizes/pulitzer_fiction.html

I have just finished Jan Karon’s Mitford Series. For the over 50 crowd her writing is a wholesome journey for the soul.
In the same vain you will laugh out loud at Philip Gulley’s humor in his Harmony series.

Like mystery novels? Try Dick Francis many novels that center around the horse racing industry.
Just finished a short read that is perfect for a weekend, check the library for The View from Saturday by Konigsburg.

If anyone ever gives me Alton Brown’s DVD series, my reading time will suffer.

Roscinante

Well, with a name like "Roscinante" for my AS, I have comitted to re-reading Don Quixote this fall. And, I will probably go back and read some of Ayn Rand's stuff (Fountainhead, We the Living, Anthem, and see if I can figure out, "Who the hell is John Galt?"

Fantastic thread! We'll be stealing many book lists and game ideas. I'd add the "Roadside Geology" series, as well as a few nature guides, definitely the Sibleys, and lots of favorite CDs including the latest Madeline Peyroux and Bob Dylan. And if I could only get the driver to play Scrabble! I'll gaze at it longingly while doing my crossword puzzles~And hope that one of you will happen by. And there's always the binocular fun while he's hunkering over the camera and tripod...

So with Brad retiring tomorrow what did we do today? Went to apply for our passports and then stopped at a local RV store and picked up a new game. The Trivial Pursuit game for RVers for 2-4 players or teams Ages-retired and those who daydream about it Be the first RVer to reach the rally and get the best site. I love the graphics and the questions on the cards are great.

Now that I have a laptop, I love to bring the Scrabble cd game and play, especially if I can't get wi-fi- connectivity, or the tv doesn't work, or Steve and I don't feel like playing any card games or our checkers board game. I also like playing online chess.

Carol, have you packed Rally-HO! in the Airstream? Please bring it along to Can Opener! Sounds like you had a good duo for the day: passports to travel and a funny game to take along. You two are going to show the rest of us how to do this retirement thing! ~G

gret reading

I read a lot, maybe too much, but they just keep writing and I can't catch up. At this time I'm reading all of Wilbur Smiths books. They center around African history from King Chaka Zulu through modern times. Great stuff! LJH
