If I had the room you mentioned I would also add the plywood, but no such luck, my batts are really crammed in there. I will add the thin plastic from a jug to make things slide along. May even cut a piece of plastic to lay across the top so the posts don't short out against the door frame.

For the posts: Of course the cables have rubber covers, but for the wing nut ears and their posts....go to your big box and buy a bag of replacement wire shelving end covers. The little white "condoms" (pardon, at a loss for words right now) that go on the wire ends. There are several sizes in the bag and they work great to insulate against the body hits and sparks while moving batts.

BTW, I have interstate group 29s and they BARELY fit with the plywood in place. What batts do you have?

Not sure on my battery size. I'll have to check the next time I'm over at the storage facility. I just know that when I tried to pull them out 5 years ago that I just said," the h--- on it, when they go dead, I wrestle with them then". The batteries are still good but it's time for me to get off my back side and pull them and attach the strap to make things easy for the future.

I never thought about using those wire shelf caps. That would work!

Forgot to mention.....the stick-um on that velcro is pretty darn good on smooth surfaces, as long as their clean & dry, but I had to use 3M Weather Strip for the webbing, clamped it between some paint stir sticks and let it sit overnight.

Hi, I bought two new group 24 batteries from Costco a few days ago. Old ones were five years old and didn't like us using the water pump. Since we are dry camping randomly on our trip, I thought it would be better to replace them.

Finally got 2 things that were long over due! Corelle plates and stuff, this should cure the issue with the crappy plastic picnic plates we have been using since getting the airstream..

And more importantly I ordered up a PD4655 converter/charger at last... Of course I ordered through bestconverter.com fyi: they take paypal

I use two wooden paint stirrers as a ramp to slide out the batteries. After sliding the batteries back into the housing the paint stirrers are stored on the side. Been working well for years. Wolf146

I have a wide plastic scraper that I use as a pry to open the windows from the outside should they stick. I use that as a ramp to remove the batteries.

Life Line 27's. I pulled one batt out early this morning and found that using a 3" wide metal paint scraper under the battery helped me lift it over the lip so I could slide it the rest of the way out. Just need to attach the pull straps now and I'll be done.

A baby monitor on clearance from Walmart. I'm gonna try it as a backup camera- the baby part/camera mounted to the locker over the bed looking out the back window and the parent part/monitor in the truck.

So far it has detected a neighborhood dog under the carport-

One purpose of the baby monitor is to see if my cat that ran away comes back to eat. The neighbor said he has seen the cat here a couple of times while we were at work.
I have caught the girl next doors pet squirrel eating the cat food twice. I have caught a small black cat in there once. He was pretty, but would not come to me.
If I had some AA batteries I would try it in the trailer now. The parent unit has a rechargeable battery, but the baby unit runs on 4 AA batteries.
If I had solar and an inverter I could run it from a 110 receptacle.
If I knew how, I could make a 12 volt DC to 6 volt DC adapter and power it from the trailer's 12 volt system. What would that be? A couple of resistors?
We'll let y'all know.
If it doesn't work, it's going back yo Walmart.

Michael you can probably find a 12 volt to 6 volt setup on Amazon. That's exactly what my WeBoost cellular booster uses. So if you keep it do some looking around. Hopefully you have 12v power near the back of the trailer that you can use.

Hit thrift stores and look for a converter that plugs into a cigarette lighter and puts out 6 volts.

The baby monitor has detected another strange dog and another strange cat under the carport.
The reception is perfect in the living room, so should be perfect from the rear of the trailer to the truck cab.
It has a temperature sensor and an intercom. When I said "Hello, Kitty" the cat in the carport ran away.
The night vision works well. I can see moths flying around in the carport.
It has a mic that pics up the neighbor's a/c condenser and cars driving by on the street.
None of these features will matter when using it as a backup camera, but the good wireless range (advertised 1,000 feet) and clear monitor that picks up everything in good color (or clear black and white night vision) will matter.
The fact that it plays 5 lullabies, has a 2 way intercom with push-to-talk on the parent unit, and has a temperature alert will never come into play while watching the back of the trailer or looking to see if my cat is coming home to eat.
