I don't think it will. I think it will put more weight on the front axle. If it's only slightly nose down I don't think it's going to make a difference but if you want to raise it you'll have to raise the hitch ball height, which will change the lift on the spring arms, putting more weight on the rear axle. Check the hitch height on the trailer vs. the hitch ball height on the TV; same? (I think my owner's manual stated my hitch height at 18")

How is it handling? Mine is slightly nose down too, truck is maybe a half inch nose up but it handles just fine on the highway. I'm tired of messing with mine, at least for now.

The hitch ball is all the way at the top.
If I try the fifth washer and nothing else happens but a little more weight is transferred to the front axle, no harm done. I have more headroom on the front axle than the rear axle- the rear axle is within 200# of max-
Handling is fine on a calm day. I feel the wind on a windy day. Acceleration, braking, and steering are fine.
Rough roads with expansion joints are terrible-
Bam bam!

I don't reckon there 's nothin I can do 'bout that...

I didn't know where to post this so I chose here. We have a portable ice maker and love it. Target has them on sale for $109. Good price for the convenience.

What did you get for your Trailer today?

Installed a new stainless exterior shower. Bought some LED rope to retrofit 1/2 of my 12v fluorescent lights.

This weekend I will retrofit a couple of the LED lights and work on some theft deterrent for my 40lb propane tanks.

Thanks! Same ones Airstream uses on the Eddie Bauer. About three months after I bought them, they released photos of the EB at the RV show. So much for uniqueness huh?

That's a hoot! I have thought about selling the Rock Tamers I bought a couple years ago. When the times comes, I will advertise them as 'Pre Out Gassed'.

I intended to hang mine up in the garage, but have left them on the truck parked outside hoping the sun will help accelerate the process.

Not quite for the trailer, but goes along with the trailer and my plan, but I bought my first fly fishing rod and reel today, going to learn to do that in the 260 days I have left before I quit my job and take off in my airstream.

Replaced the stock one-step with a two-step and aluminum treads. Much more substantial unit and looks much better, I think. We needed the extra step since I installed a lift kit on the axel and the dog was having a hard time.

First picture is the stock step
Second picture compares the stock step with the new unit
Third picture is the new step installed and folded out
Fourth picture is the new step folded up for travel

I had to make several brackets to facilitate the install, but was not too complicated. The new step feels much more stable and is wider, offering more surface for stepping on. It is manufactured by Lippert.

Registration and Plates OH YEAH BABY!

So, I'm very proud to say that today for our beloved Airstream we got official ownership from the state of California. WOOT!

Ours is the classic 'found in a field' story, expired registration in Maine, no title, etc. In fact the owner was a friend of a friend (my friend owned the field) and I never met him in person.

I was at the DMV for another matter last month and was fortunate to get instructions from a very nice DMV employee. They do exist.

In case you're interested, here are the steps it took:

1. Bill of Sale from Owner (emailed)
2. Hired a VIN certifier to come out and fill out the DMV VIN verification form. I could have taken trailer to DMV but right now it's all torn apart and not really in towing condition.
3. Called state of Maine and got a verification letter that the trailer was indeed last registered there in 2011 and that no title would be issued because it's too old (1972). A bill of sale was all they would need for a title transfer.
4. Filled out an official California bill of sale, transfer of title, request for title and request for personalized plate forms.
5. Spent an hour at the DMV (even with an appointment!) explaining my story in my most charming manner.
6. Forged my hubby's signature in one spot right in front of the DMV employee. The alternative was title in only my name, and I didn't think he'd take too kindly to that.
7. Walked out with full title, license plates, tags and our O SHINY custom Yosemite plate on order.

YAY ME!

Oh, I also ordered a gallon of airplane stripper so we can start getting that clear coat off. So she got three things today

Outstanding job on the step install and mod. Seems like an improvement that Airstream should make to all the trailers with the one step design. I would send them info and photos of your mod.

I installed a Drexel Axle (sorry for the mis spell in original post) Lift Kit, which raises the body about 2 3/4 inches. I like the additional clearance for the rear bumper, and the valves and it makes it easier to remove the 16" wheels and tires.
