Previous owner had the skid plates torched off. I did not notice that when I bought it from Colonial. It took 2 bumper replacements before I looked at another EB and wondered, "why don't I have that piece welded to my rear frame?" Bumper #3 is now bent. Next time I go to JC, new skid plates and/or a lift kit get added.

Unrelated rant: Bored spitless by Covid-19 and spending too much time on the internet. Do not NEED a new tow vehicle, but too much time on my hands has sent me window shopping. Someone mentioned a Lexus 570 as a good tow vehicle. So I looked them up. Lexi (which I have been told IS the proper plural) have gotten progressively much more expensive and absolutely butt-ugly in the past 10 years, but Suburbans seem almost worse. Horrible mileage and priced like a Lexus. Guess I'd be better off throwing a good paint job on the diesel Denali, and replacing a wretchedly expensive malfunctioning sensor board than shopping for another tow vehicle. Get a little Kia for tooling around Florida in winter. Paint? The only thing worse than a white truck is a black one. Fall and 100,000 love bugs have started to commit suicide on the front of my white GMC again....
Whining about some real first world problems, aren't I?

You would be better off putting a lift kit under the axles.

Gen-Y Hitch

Upgraded my Equalizer hitch to the Gen-Y Boss Torsion Flex / Weight Distribution. Saw this on another post and reached out to the OP for information. Looking forward to using it and seeing if it operates as expected. Very easy to add the Equalizer WD part to the Gen-Y. The 2 1/2" shank should help eliminate slop. Was glad I was still able to use my cart for putting on and off as this thing is much beefier than the 2" Equalizer shank.

I'm very happy with my GEN-Y Hitch so far. I will say the combination of that and the blue oxway Pro is too much for me to lift though. I have a bad back and so I had my son help me put it in. He's 19 and young and strong. now that it is in place I don't think I will take it out ever I can avoid it.

I hope I will be happy with it as well. The only issue I had was deciding which one to go with. My tongue weight is 1,090 and the 16K / 2 1/2" shank is rated for 1,000 - 1,700 lbs tongue weight. The 10K 2" shank is rated for 400 - 1,100 lbs tongue weight. Gen-Y recommended the 16K model and that was my preference as well. As others have stated, the Gen-Y staff was easy to contact and answer all questions. It appears to be a nice compliment to the Equalizer and should isolate the truck movement from the RV.

I feel your pain with the back as it is heavy. The good news for me is that I only have to lift it about 1-2" off of my cart which will work well.....for now.

I've had my Gen-Y for a couple years and can't say enough good about it, except for the weight. The combination of the Equalizer WD, rock guard, and the Gen-Y, it's heavy. I made a caddy, with wheels that makes it easy on, easy off.

Take into consideration...you're now 3" LOWER with even more chances to drag the butt. It's the leverage that bends, wheels just make things quieter so you don't notice when you are dragging.
The casters in the photo put the force directly on the bumper which is there to absorb horizontal force not vertical.

Awareness will eliminate dragging your butt.
We have gone 33yrs without bending the frame.

Skid plates skid...thats' what they are designed to do...spread the force over a larger area, forward of the bumper, instead of just the POC👍

What did you get for your Airstream today?

So I was getting ready to post to "What Did You Get For Your Trailer Today?" and it says Closed! Really? After 342 pages, 6826 posts, and 1,197,992 views, it's closed? Already?

So, I didn't buy it today, but just before the last trip of summer last weekend. Possibly one of the best and cheaper purchases and a big life(style) changer-the Dirt Destroyer from Torklift Central. Best $61 dollars I've spent in a while. The inside of the Airstream was the cleanest it has even been on a trip despite being near a beach, rain, and 3 dogs.

. . .
No kidding!

A tragic case of making matters worse by over-thinking IMO.

Made a hitch mount for the A-frame

Now that I’m retired I am able to get around to some little projects. I had been storing the Blue Ox hitch in a plastic tub in the truck bed once we got to the destination but that was getting old.

I picked up a Curt 2 1/2” receiver tube and made some mounting plates from 1/4” steel. Some 3/8” threaded rod hold it all together. Now I don’t have to hoist the beast into the truck, just slide it into the receiver and put the locking pin back on.

EasyStart Soft Starter for 15 yr old DuoTherm

Cleaned both fans while up there too. Now there's hardly any vibrations inside with the AC running. There was huge amount of gunk on the blades which was causing an imbalance.

Where did you get the threaded rods and plates? If you made them, will you sell me a set? I love this idea.

Darn, this thread is expensive... Gotta have that Dirt Destroyer. I must track in half a pound of dirt every time I go inside when it has rained or grass has been cut. So much better than having to vacuum every day or sometimes even more often. Thanks for finding this.

The broom didn't come out once over 4 days. With the dogs involved it is usually a daily thing. Not so much because of them tracking in dirt, more from me walking them to take care of their business.

Great job Jeff! I’m at the age where anything to save the back is appreciated.

Foiled Again, I got the steel and rod at Home Depot. If you have a hacksaw, drill and a vise you can make them yourself. I tapped the top plates and used jam nuts to lock them. The bottom plates have clearance holes for the rod and double nuts. I put some rubber strips between the frame and the plates to prevent scuffing up the paint. You can find the receiver at Amazon or your favorite supply store, just select the size for your hitch.

Send me a PM if you’d like more details. I’d be glad to make a set for you if you don’t have access to the tools. That’s what Streamers do!
