Did propane fillers refuse to fill your earlier tanks because their inspection date had expired? I am in that situation because the tanks have a 10-year inspection and it expired in 2017.

MaineStreamer - Just get your tanks recertified.... Here's a link to let you find "Retesters" and "Visual Only Retesters". Based upon a Saco, Maine location there are 7 within 15 miles.

All the best!

Or use a cheap metal-stamp kit from Harbor Freight propane-bottle recertification dept. and recertify it yourself. (This'll get a response!)

I have horizontal tanks
That cannot be fitted with the newer valves and never have a problem getting them filled at Costco

Didnít even try after calling around to do so.
Calling 3 filling stations each denied the ability of filling if tanks past expiration and ours were 2 yrs past that.
Heard recerts in our area were 40-50.00 after testing and new valve installed so for the difference decided new. Happy cause their shiny, new valves and no more rust stains. Both filled up to top !

Would you kindly post a link to the tank you bought? I'm in the market.

Thank you, Tom. I drive by the Dead River gas dealer in Biddeford, Maine twice every workday. I will take the tanks there.

It turns out that Dead River only recertifies stationary tanks, not portable tanks. Iíll have to check for another place. Dead River suggested the local U-Haul rental place.

Might be easier to just call first... I've used a place in Exeter, NH called Hartmann Oil, and I know that Simards in Haverhill, MA also does it.

Seeing that you are in Maine, I assume that you periodically take trips into Canada.

There was a recent thread regarding propane tank recertification and it mentioned problems getting US recertified tanks filled in Canada.

Greg
Is your recollection that Canadian propane dealers aren't allowed to fill recertified tanks? If so, that would be a good reason to buy new tanks.

Longer trip coming up this summer, so probably about time to start using one. (Kudos to a fellow AS club member for the specific suggestion.)
