Camera package for Silverado

Purchased a 2018 Silverado 2500 last month and had the camera package installed by an audio shop. Those cameras are fantastic. Change lanes either side and you see your blind spot. I installed the camera in the Airstream because I wanted to do it my way and it works great as well. I wired it so I could call on the camera anytime except when in reverse. It being wireless is a big plus and no problem with picking up signal from the Airstream to the truck. I did get a front camera as well. None of the dealers I spoke with knew anything about the camera packages much less how to install them.

Would love to see sample pics of them and their views. (We personally installed 4 HD recording cams on our 25ft CCD Intnl. years ago and appreciate the big improvement).

What Did You Get For Your Trailer Today?

Truma instant hot water upgrade, which replaced our existing water heater. Oh, and a stainless steel exterior water heater door!

One of the FIRST things I did was find a way to get rid of that cheap, painted water-heater door.

I did it even CHEAPER!

I went to O'Reillys auto parts... bought a can of "Stainless Steel" COLOR aerosol rattle-can paint... I removed the door and gave it two or three coats of that $8 spray-can.... and reinstalled the door.

Lot's of fellow Airstreamers ask me how much my "Stainless Steel" door cost me and "Where did you get it?"

It's going on 3 years and still looks as good as the day I painted it. It's a very convincing treatment. ( I have thrown the can away but I think it was Krylon-brand. It gave a convincing stainless-steel, brushed-finish appearance.)

A&P Vintage Trailer Works that did our two Truma installations covered the Truma stock white hatch with a piece of Airstream aluminum skin including rivets. They used a special silver paint for the Corlon frame. Also added a wasp guard over the combustion air and exhaust vents. Makes it look stock....

I bought a new Ram 1500 V8 this weekend. On Presidents Day I’ll shop for a cap and bed glide.

I bet you'll like that setup. I did add AirLift air-bags to the inside of those rear coil-springs when I tow. It stiffens up that soft coil rear suspension with the weight of gear and trailer-tongue....but you may not need it.
(The Rambox is also a fantastic tow-vehicle option. Easy access to smallish items like tools and camping gear ..I even have a 3-gal hot-dog compressor in one side... while keeping those things locked-up and out of sight but easy access without having to get into the bed.)

We are interested in this.

I presume the Truma works on both propane and electricity? Is the heat instant when running off of propane?

What Did You Get For Your Trailer Today?

Most RV tankless water heaters use 12 volt power for the controller and use only propane to heat the water. I have a PrecisionTemp and that’s how it works. Others appear to be similar. Takes a rather large flame and heat exchanger to get “instant” hot water. That said, it consumes LESS propane overall because it only heats water when you need it. Mine takes no mare than 2-3 seconds to supply hot water, and most of that time is getting cold water out of the line from the heater to the faucet. It’s quite convenient, and silent when not heating water. Our old Atwood conventional unit made a lot of noise when heating water. Used to wake me up because ours is near the head of our front bed.

Although electric tankless water heaters exist for home use, they draw amazing amounts of power to heat the water instantly....propane or natural gas seems to be the best way.

Yes, heat is via propane. Controller runs on 12V.

Had a piece 1/8" thick plexiglass cut and installed it in the center panel of the trailer on the left. $58.- and a couple of hours messing with it. Sure beats the price dealers are asking for it..around $600.- I think, to replace the panel with frame and hinge.

Are you referring to a homemade stone guard for the front center window? How did you hinge and attach it?

No, I only replaced the cracked plexi glass of the center section.

I did the samething, after discovering a nail in a trailer tire while in my driveway. While taking the tire off three of the chrome caped lugnuts broke free, so I had to chisel them off. Decided I would rather deal with that problem in my driveway than on the side of the freeway on a dark and rainy night. While swapping I had 5 of 6 break free on another tire. The other 16 went fine.
My wife sometime in the future may appreciate this.

You have good taste. Would you mind posting the specs.? That sounds like yet another awesome idea.

Too tall, here ya go. It was a difficult back and forth decision process for the GYE vs Nokians so depending on your load requirements may be worthy of consideration.
Goodyear Endurance ST 225/75R/15 117 LR E Speed N inc Metal valve stems $121+19 + 4 = $143 https://tinyurl.com/y8bs6vle I bought mine from Discount Tires as I was having the TV tires rotated but the price was basically the same

Also in consideration from Wally’s: Nokian Rotiiva AT All Season LT235/75R/15 116 LR E Each: 106.12 + $9 M & B + $4 metal valve stems TTL 119.12

Gorilla Automotive 21183HT Small Diameter Acorn Chrome 5 Lug Kit (1/2" Thread Size)-Pack of 20 https://tinyurl.com/y787a3c8. I paid $23.50 (Amazon via Direct Dist) in the “other sellers on amazon” section in the lower right corner. Seems 20 paks were cheaper than 16’s…free shipping.
Note I have a 2014 FC 20 but suspect the lug-nut spec is the same. Gorilla’s CS is very responsive.

I spent months looking for a small electric heater for chilly nights.
Tried a Broan and found it too noisy. Kept coming back to the old ceramic Pelonis heaters from the 80's. I finally found a like new Pelonis on e-bay that still had the box and instructions, not a scratch! Man, does that thing put out some heat! It also can be dialed down to reduce fan speed as well as watts.
I'd say, "they don't make them like this anymore." Steel, heavy, clean.
