Sad that we can't just buy the battery box cover. The price including both is fair, however ... but we already have the EB bumper cover ...
Maybe the Subfan1 rear cover could be combined with us to make a "pair" ??? What would be the price per each?

Finally broke down an bought a quality axe. Helko Traditional Black Forest Pack Axe. The old short handle Scout hatchet is just not doing the trick these day.

I've recently started researching axes and mauls as I also need something a little more impressive than a hatchet to carry along our travels. How did you choose that particular brand/size? I'd like something of quality, that lasts awhile and can easily split "largish" chunks that some camp sites provide.

You might want to have a look at these axes made in Finland. It is a completely different design then your traditional axe and it seems to be quite effective while demanding less force.

So, after contemplating options ... how about a nifty "guard" to prevent accidental actuation of the water heater switches. It is a piece of small diameter stainless steel rod bent in a wide U-shape to fit around the switches and plate ... I drilled through the plate and into the wall a short bit ...voila`. It is positioned at the peak of the rocker switch and is a "press' fit to allow easy removal if necessary. This, of course, would work for most switches - just make sure to allow room for your fingers under / between the bar and switch to actuate the switch.
|
We had the same issue. Here is my easy fix.
I got one of those clear silicone little circle stickers that you can put on a cabinet door to keep it from banging when closing the door. They are about the diameter of a pencil eraser. I put one on the light switch in the bathroom, and one on the light switch by my entry door. Now I hit the interior light (vs porch light) by the entry, and light (vs water heater) by feel. Very easy and low cost.

I have recently switched to ' batoning' using a small machete and a baton of wood. It takes less effort and is far safer for splitting wood.

Cory, recently discovered a Bushcraft Forum ( http://bushcraftusa.com/forum/) as I have been trying to get back to the basics with hiking and tent camping more. Axe discussions are a big thing there almost as contentious as tire discussions here without all the arguments and personal attacks. Helko is a German foundry company over 200 years old and considered one of the best in Europe. The Bushcraft Store ( http://www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk) in England is a supplier with much better prices delivered and faster delivery than Helko America. Size wise I wanted an axe with a bit more leverage and weight without being too large to swing and store easily. I felt this size with the 700gr head and 50 cm handle would do the trick. I tried it out last night. It is perfect for my requirements. I also carry a couple of steel wedges for splitting . Always better to use the correct tool for the job when possible.

Replaced all the screens with "no see um screen" except the roof fans. No more of the little bugs inside for us.

5 new Michelin LTX tires for free!! Discovered there was a safety recall a few years back on the 16" ones installed on some early Eddie Bauers and the PO did not bother getting them. Good for me!

So nothing tool worthy or exciting but in the cute factor:
A small suction cup clock from bed bath and body. Thanks TB&G for the recommendation.
A small garden stake with flag for our camp spot
A super cute artistic trailer for in the house maybe.

Received our Maxim skylight yesterday and installed it too. Much, much better than the OEM one. More details on the "Step by step: Replacing OEM skylights . . ." thread.

Finished cutting and fitting the brand new belly pan. Now to remove Clecos and replace them with rivets.
It sure is pretty.

Picked up some new parts for the old Safari,
A water heater, converter and a blue boy.
The tote fits perfectly behind the propane tanks.
These should make our upcoming trips much more pleasant.

If you don't have one already, I strongly recommend the fitting that fits on the trailer where you hook up the stinky slinky hose, and has a small hole on it that lets you screw on a standard garden hose. Then attach a 10 foot hose. We used this when we used our blueboy in Yellowstone. FOR GRAYWATER USE! We then placed the blueboy about 8 feet on the downhill from the gate valve/connection point on the trailer. Super easy and no mess to empty the gray water into the blue boy. We also found that by wrapping a strap in a double loop (I used an extra ratchet tie down strap I had on hand) on the blue boy on the side opposite the handle, that this made it much easier for 2 people to lift. (We have the 12 gallon size). We further discovered that if we only let it fill ½ full before emptying that it was light enough that we could just dump into the dishwashing sink at the campground (GRAYWATER ONLY). In fact it was so easy that we would just both shower and then just empty it right away so the water was "fresh" into the gray tank.
