Thermarest pads are awesome. At first I was like, $100 for an air matress?!?!" Then I slept on one.

That's odd. I found the mattress in our 2014 FC to be excellent. We did put a topper on it because we were expecting it to be terrible, but slept the first week without it since it arrived late. We didn't need it.

The mattress in our 07 classic was, and still is, very comfortable.

Ian, look forward to your report. Thanks!

I bought my heated mattress pad at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Went for the pricier Sunbeam version with the dual controls. Invariably, the mate, dog, parakeet or whatever one sleeps with has a different opinion when it comes to temperature.

The stock mattress that came in our new 2014 International Signature is pretty terrible. After we added a 3" memory foam topper it became tolerable, though still not great. At some point, we'll replace that bed sandwich with a good mattress. We will not be buying any mattress products from Airstream and our dealer, given how bad the original mattress was.

The first night at the selling dealership in the 2013 25FB International Serenity (built in June 2012), the factory 7" mattress spoke loudly about being replaced soon!

We replaced it with an 8" Rocky Mountain Mattress and we were able to use the custom sheets we had ordered from Airstream as they would have been too loose on the 7" factory mattress.

I left the factory 2014 Classic twin mattresses at the factory and put in twin 8" Rocky Mountain mattresses. We will upgrade to the 10" models someday in the future as we really like the 10" Rocky Mountain mattress we put in our 2015 23D International Serenity to replace the stock mattress which I disliked on the trip back from the selling dealership.

Used one for many years on the Bruce Trail, The Long Trail, The Rideau Trail, LaCloche Sillouette trail, and many others.
It was well worth the $80 I spent on it.

Actually found one along the highway. Probably blew out of a truck. No name or address on it. Extra long thermarest. Used it for years--it's probably still around here somewhere.

I can't say we were impressed with the stock mattress that came with our '14 Classic. But, in full disclosure, most "RV" accouterments are not made for someone 6'6" and 300lbs.

Upgraded this summer to a 9" 100% Latex (Dunlop & Tallalay) custom mattress from Rocky Mountain. Perfect. Better than our bed at home. I'd never heard of a latex mattress before my wife bought this. Of course, when I found out how much it cost, I decided that I was going to love it no matter what... Fortunately, it lived up to the hype.

I sleep just fine in my 2013 Classic, but...
When I roll over a knee or elbow can actually feel the coil springs even with a memory foam mattress topper.

My queen in my 2012 25fb felt like it was made out of cardboard and coil springs. Bought one of those memory foam mattress off of amazon that comes vacuum sealed in a box. I couldn't be happier with it. It did take a few weeks for the chemical smell to go away.

Late Model AS Mattresses

It's all a matter of personal preference. My wife is completely satisfied with hers, I hate mine and will replace it as soon as the season ends. We are accustomed to a relatively firm mattress at home. My AS twin mattress is entirely too soft. I find it necessary to turn as I sleep and the soft mattress makes this very difficult. One of the factory problems was that the mattress overhung the platform by 4 inches. This left 4 inches of the mattress unsupported! I asked a factory rep at the Lewisberg International rally and was told that this was done to keep users from bumping their shins on the platform, wow! I corrected this with a new wider piece of plywood on the platform top. I now have a mattress that is effectively 4 inches wider but it is still too soft.

Well, I have failure and success both to report. First, failure - when I thought the Airstream Service Center had mattresses in stock to try; what they really had was a display rack with 1 ft^2 mattress samples to push your hand into. So as far as the special order luxury options at Airstream, it was a full, 100%, dud.

However, when I was on the factory tour on Tuesday, we walked by the mattress stations with enough time for me to dash out of line and investigate what's going into this years trailers closely. All of them seem to effectively be the same coil spring foundation we have in our slightly older trailers, but with pillow-tops added in every case.

I did not get to lie on one, but am thinking the result is effectively what you would get with the current mattress + 3" topper.

For myself, I think I'll bit the bullet on the 8" Rocky Mountain gel-infused mattress option; that or a tempurpedic full-size.

Ian

Great information here! The queen mattress in my 2015 was just ok. Then sold and bought a 30' Serenity with twins. I think the mattress is worse! And, hangs over the support edge, unsupported.
At the dealer on Friday I noticed the mattresses seemed taller and firmer in the 2017 models, and were supportive around the edge.
I placed an order to replace them @ $625 each. I hope this works!

I think we are going to replace ours next spring with a custom latex matress. I can get one made in Portland to fit, and I can pick the firmness after trying them at the store.

We have a 2016Classic. Added a 3" memory foam topper and it is great.

We replaced the stock queen mattress in the 2013 25Fb International Serenity with a 8" Rocky Mountain mattress when we got it home. One night at the dealership was enough on the stock mattress.

We left the twin mattresses at the Airstream factory on our 2014 31' Classic and put in 8" Rocky Mountain twin mattresses when the unit arrived.

We replaced the stock mattress on our 2015 23D International Serenity with a 10" Rocky Mountain mattress when we got it home.

At some point, we will upgrade the 8" twins in the Classic to the 10" Rocky Mountain mattress.

The 600 thread Airstream custom sheets would have been loose on the 7" stock queen mattress in the 25FB but fit the 8" Rocky Mountain mattress perfectly. The same great fit happened for the 8" Rocky Mountain twins in the Classic.
