WBCCI Numbers on Argosy

I just removed the previous owner's WBCCI numbers from my '78 Argosy. The shadows left on an Aluminum Airstream aren't a great problem in comparison to the issues left on the Argosy. Even utilizing the least amount of heat possible, some of the underlying paint lifted (and what didn't lift turned bright yellow) with the numbers leaving more than ghosts - - I now have bright yellow numbers surrounded by the colonial white of the trailer.

In considering alternatives (the coach is to be repainted this fall), I hit upon an idea that might be workable with the Argosys. I am thinking of approaching a local sign painter about creating two magnetic signs painted Argosy off-white and appropriately sized to display the WBCCI badge and numbers. The magnetic signs could then be displayed on both endcaps (galvanized steel) whenever on the road to a Rally or Caravan as well as while at a Rally. In the off-season the magnetic signs could be stored in one of the coach's closets - - the side benefit would be preserving the numbers for multiple seasons (I have yet to get more than three seasons from a set of numbers on my Overlander).

Have any other Argosy owner's tried this approach? If so, are there any problems associated with leaving the signs attached during travel?

Kevin

Cool Idea!

See the galvanized ends are a benifit!

I would assume if the magnetic signs are made like the ones that people put on the side of a car they should hold just fine. The Place that makes the sign should be able to put the numbers on too in the proper height/color. Remember to leave room for your stars, or the ones that you will earn!

Good idea!

I am sure you can get the magnetic vinyl background in a color that would be a close match to the Argosy color. As far as I could tell my Minuet never had WBCCI numbers on it but it did have some Good Sam stickers which left very obvious traces, no paint and some rust patches. Now if there was such thing as a magnet for aluminum we would be set!

BTW, I still get to see it, my Minuet, it is sitting in the couple's driveway exactly where I delivered it, I guess they are still using it as an office
