WBCCI - finally decided to join

I think I am going to do it.Yea I know there is a lot of politics and who ha's going on but I am intrested now.
It may take a bit of time but am pretty sure I can figure it out.
What Florida units are out there.I already know of the one in p-cola and they seemed great but I just want to hear from the others if there are any more that would like to tell me a bit about there unit.Am I able to just join whatever unit I want?
I just want to have some fun and meet new people like we do at the forum rallies cause those are really fun.
Thanks All.

Devoman,
You can join any unit or no unit at all by being a MAL, member at large. Personally, I see no advantage to being a MAL. You can also join any additional unit as an affiliate. This doesn't do much except get you on their Newsletter distribution list.

If you want to rally with locals then it would seem logical to join the local unit. See the list at;
WBCCI.org

A few units have a broader scope than just their home state. For example, the WDCU and the non-traditional Fourcorners unit of which I am a member. Our dues are $1. We have at least one Florida member but most are in CA, AZ, CO and NM.
Happy hunting

Best would be to go to visit a few unit functions and see what's available and what fits your lifestyle. I'm in central NY, but joined the WDCU because my wife and I are in our late 30's with young kids and there are many others in the unit with a similar situation. I was lucky and found out about it through a good friend of mine who is also in the unit, and have made many other friends there. I know that if I was in one of the units that was more centered around retired folks I probably wouldn't be very interested in being a part of the whole thing. I guess I could be wrong about that, though, as most of the retired folks that I have met in the WDCU are very active, laid back, tolerant, fun, and not at all like some of the stereotypical "WBCCI Old Guard" that I hear so much about.

I've thought about joining myself, but being sorta new to this, I don't like all the things I read about "old guard" and politics. That doesn't seem to be what this should be about.
I'll keep reading and try to make up my mind this winter.

Shop your local units and see what fits. Every unit is different so enjoy the search.

jpeterman,

There's a lot of fun to be had in the WBCCI.

The International aspect of the club can try one's patience but the units are where you'll be and you'll be having lots of fun there.

The FCU is the Four Corners Unit. One of the newer unconventional units.

No business meetings when camping. Do it all by computer.

Lots of boondocking and we opt for the view as opposed to the facilities.

Laid back and fun times. If you're in the nieghborhood drop on in.

It's actually called the Four Corners Unit of New Mexico only because we were required to have a geographical name in the name of our unit. They didn't recognize four corners as a geographic location. We have rallies in AZ, NM and CO with club members from all over the nation and one (hi Barry) in Canada.

Four Corners is the only spot in the US where four states come together. The states are Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. Most of the members of the unit live in this geographic area, but we also have many members that live in other parts of the country as well as Canada.

You should visit the Pensacola unit, they own a great camp ground on a river and their in your backyard.

The members (all great helpful ) will be a bit older than you but that may be anywhere you go, but with your out going personality it should be no problem for you.

The Florida State rally is Feb 18-22 and a wonderful place to meet all the units in Florida as well as from all over the country. Its one of the biggest rallys in WBCCI and we always have a great time.

Just mailed my membership in to the 4 corners Unit today... They are what I am looking for.. Some people to go camping with and have fun..... And enjoy a glass of wine or a cold beer, and talk around the campfire ( while the kids sleep)

purman,
Welcome to the FCU. Look at our rally schedule on our web page. We had a couple in CO and the next one will be the ABQ Balloon Fiesta. Reservation deadline is 9/8/08.
