Wardrobe Closet Doors Fly Open During Travel
Sorry if this thread is misplaced. Couldn't find the repair forum on the mobile App.
Need ideas for aesthetic way to keep Closet Doors closed when traveling. Latches are too weak to hold by themselves. Doors bounce open then weight of doors breaks off hinges. I'm on road and don't have a good shop or all my tools. Have visited several big box hardware stores for ideas but to no avail.
Have '78 Sovereign. Doors are three in a row. 2 left hinge and 1 right.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

We use bungee cords to tie the doors together by the handles. That seems to work.

Bungee cord where they will fit on most of my cabinets and interior doors. Now trying to figure out how to keep three drawers under the TV from ending up on the floor. Currently I pull them out and set on the floor prior to hitting the road. PITA!

Not sure if you have the same configuration of doors, but i have seen a tension curtain rod or dowel put down thru the doors handles to hold them together and then a clip at the top to hold the rod in place They work together to hold each other in. YMMV

Life gives you lemons, make lemonade ???????
The heck with that….chuck the lemons, and buy steak and beer.
What about marine door latches and hardware. They come in brass and stainless steel. They look really cool.

It may be that clothing is sliding forward and against the door, causing the door to come open, as I have that problem.
Might try a tension rod inside your wardrobe, holding your clothes back and away from the door.

As with the experience of others, we use the bungee cords. Lace through the closet and drawer handles. Concept is to get the restraint of all working together to hold the one that is getting away. Believe the marine locks are the answer, but have not been able to convince myself to take that action as the ones I like require a hole for the finger to reach in and release the catch. Besides, the bungees work.
Another partial solution is packing the drawers a bit full. The clothes restrict the ease of sliding for the drawer. A full closet keeps clothes packed in but adds to the wrinkle inventory.
We also found less of a problem after upgrade of tires, addition of rotational balancers, and slowing down a bit. One of those solutions was considerably more cost effective.
Travel safe. Pat

Worked for me.
Not sure which one AS puts on their units, but I got this one for the same spot on my rig. They come in 5# and 10# pull force. Same exact size and hole pattern as the one that came out. Since putting it on the door (AND having DW take out and relocate the heavy leaning stuff) it works like a champ, Door has not opened yet (Have been on for 2 Winding road Trips) and remained "Stock" looking. I ordered 4 more 10#'s and are waiting for me at home. I want to install them on some drawers replacing what I think are 5#'s.

We also use bungee cords. The ones that have a little ball at one end are the perfect length for this use. We use it on the closets AND the drawers. Sure would be super if Airstream had thought of this in advance and put latches or locks on all of them. But I have realized over the course of two years that Airstream is leaning largely on their name and reputation of many years ago. Now they just throw together whatever they can get cheap. So many design flaws and they pretend nothing is wrong with with any of it.

We had that problem with the drawers under our bunks and my husband bought some strong magnets and set them into the inner side of the drawer surfaces and they hold great. He is handy with tools and fitting/engineering things so that helped. You can't see them from the outside so its esthetically pleasing and we no longer have to think about them opening.

To stop our pantry cabinet from sliding open when we're traveling, we put a shower curtain tension rod just below the ceiling braced against the front top of the pantry cabinet door and the cabinet above the fridge across from the pantry. Problem solved. When we arrive at our destination, the rod is stored in a closet.

I have a new 2017 Interstate and ALL the doors fly open, including tbe trash, which ends up on the floor. Yuck. Really a poorly design system. I don't think bungee cords will work on my pull knobs. Any other ideas? I hate to drill holes in a two week old vehicle.
