Vinyl stripe removal

My 1980 vinyl pinstripes are dull, cracked, dried out. It cannot be peeled off. Does anyone have a good solution on how this can be removed?

Get a heat gun, set it on low, make sure you have seating that has casters and take it inch by inch.

I use a heat gun and wood spatula. Start with the heat gun on low heat setting.

I tried a heat gun. No luck. It seems to be "baked" on the surface.

If a heat gun does not work, try working an oil under the vinyl. Spray with WD40 or rub vigorously with peanut butter. The oil will soften the baked on adhesive and allow the vinyl to separate from the trailer skin. A heat gun did the trick for me when I removed the decals from my old Scamp.

Try “Rapid Remover” from Amazon. Used in the vinyl sign industry to remove old vinyl and adhesive.

I did mine with paint stripper. The hardest job I have done on the trailer, I think. It took 3 applications of stripper waiting just the right time between application and scraping with a plastic spatula. When it comes off it leaves shadows of the stripe pattern in the Al. But the trailer looks a lot better without it. I used Citri strip at first but thr stripper I bought At Woodcraft worked slightly better.

I spent days trying different solvents and heat sources but the only thing I found that worked was the paint stripper. And yes you have to tape the stripe off and keep the stripper from running down the side on the clear coat below the stripe.
