Chief Warrant Officer

I was a Chief Warrant Officer (W4) in the U.S. Coast Guard completing 26 years service including 7 years sea duty. Finished my career at the Coast Guard Training Center in Petaluma, CA in 1999. Now I work for the company recently voted the best place to work in America - GENENTECH - at their Vacaville, CA manufacturing operations facility.

Air Force, 1987-1992. Five years and 21 days, but who's counting? Actually, it was a tremendous experience, and I've never regretted it.

Pray for our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines

Our men and women are doing an incredible job overseas in the combat zones. They believe in what they are doing. They are helping the Iraqi and Afghani people establish a democracy and the the rule of law. We will win this War if we believe we will win.

You may be in the minority, but I have heard that sentiment expressed by many people, and believe so myself. Discipline, respect for authority, the list goes on - things that seem to be waning. Not that young folks are all going to pot...

All you vets, thank you for your current or past service.

Drafted 1969.
3 days after induction Selective Service uses lottery system to assign draft ranking by birthday. (Dec. 1st was first drawing)
Served Vietnam May70-May71, MACV assignment near DMZ.
By the time discharge date arrived, draft was history. Modern Volunteer Army had arrived.

Today's coincidence: While quail hunting in South GA. we were discussing the need to reinstate the draft. Possible but not very probable.

Dedicating this posting to empresley(senior), WWII vet, retired USN.

Peace,
empresley, jr.
