This was a tough one to watch for me. It didn't help that I was tearing up as the video went on.

It reminded me of several of my buddies that are no longer alive. We all survived the Vietnam thing, but some have died since. I remember Ira, Don, Gary and many others that served with me. I raise a glass to them every Veteran's Day.

Veterans Fall In!

The toughest one was a table set at a Cracker Barrel Store in Texas. They had set a 4-top with plates and glasses, decorated with service flags and other items, in honor of those no longer with us on Veteran's Day.

At that restaurant, I met a WW2 Navy veteran who had served on a ship that was an escort for our aircraft Carrier. I found out that the ship he served on was a predecessor of the one we operated with. He was, of course quite old, but still sharp, with a firm handshake. Both he and his wife lived in the area, happily retired. I thanked him for preceding me and my shipmates and establishing a path that we also followed.

Betty's Battalion in San Antonio TX, across the street from Ft Sam Houston always set a place for our fallen comrades. Likewise at the Green Beret Parachute Club at Ft Bragg, Fayetteville, NC. Now that all medical personnel from all branches of the armed forces are schooled at Ft Sam, except for Special Operations who are trained at Ft Bragg, things are probably a little different.

I'm kind of late to this thread, as usual-

U.S. Army
Ft. Sill--1963: Artillery School
Ft. Rucker --1964: Army Aviation School
Ft Benning--1964/65: 11th Air Assault Division (Test)
1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile)--1965/66 "first shift"in Vietnam: Ia Drang Valley, Bong Son, Dak To--all the fun places. Just under 700 combat missions.
159th Aviation Company--1966/69: Ga-NG. O-1, U-6A, OV-1
Discharged as Captain.

I'm proud to have served...

Hey Bob662,
I'm just up the road from you in Southaven. That's a lot of combat missions. I was with a rifle company, FS Base Ross and LZ Baldy.
