1st post was my AS forum intro.

2nd post is here.

Semper Fi to all my Marine Corps brothers and a warm hello to every one who has served our great country.

I spent four years in the Marines from 89-93. My primary MOS was 0352 TOW missile gunner. I was fortunate enough to spend a year at Camp Schwab Okinawa. I am a Persian Gulf war veteran and while i was "boots on the ground" i never saw combat. Most of my time though was used up as a scout for 1st Light Armoured Recon at Camp Pendleton. I was also on West PAC 92 with the USS Fort Fisher.

Long time since then and many changes in my life but i seem to always find friendly faces on the veterans threads.

So here I am.

Joe. CPL. USMC

Welcome Joe! Camp Pendleton is just about at our front door as we live in Vista and face those Mountains and Hills. Often we go to sleep with everything shaking and rumbling. We sure don't miss that when we are on the road.

Buddy Check 22
a Facebook event

"BUDDY CHECK 22 is a day to call a veteran that you know and check in on them. This will hopefully change the fact that 22 23 veterans a day commit suicide. The best part... You don't have to go ANYWHERE. Invite your friends, have them invite their friends; we can grow it and be a part of something that may just save a life. Maybe it's 2 minutes out of your day, (but please don't put a timer on when you make that call, or text or chat); every veteran deserves to know that we still care about them."

My new friends, I am inviting all of you. Many young men and women have come back, and are still coming back, with more than missing limbs and TBIs. The government is letting them down, but we are their brothers and sisters and we are not going to let them down. We are going to offer them a hand, we can lift them. And we can do this until the number is 0

My Dad worked for Sikorsky 1959 to 1968 as a Mechanic; so if you ever managed to fly in a Jolly Green Giant during those years and for a few years afterwards, you may very well have flown in something he helped to build.

US Naval Reserve 1965 to 1971.

Two years enlisted while I finished college and then served as a young officer (reaching O-3) until my six years time was up. I was stationed on two ships - the FRAM 2 Destroyer "Richard E Kraus" (DD-849) which was last seen with hull numbers painted out being towed to razor blades and the Destroyer Tender "Cascade" (AD-16).

US Navy 1967-1976. USS Ranger, CVA-61 at the time. Also headed for the ship breakers on the Texas coast. Was pretty much worn out when I was aboard, as a young Data Systems Technician.

Lots of good stories, and I'm still making a great living with the computer skills I learned from that period. Time passes, ships wear out, but, when push comes to shove, it's the people that bring them alive.

Have a great Veteran's day!
