Guys,

I just found this web site for the 1st CAV D 227th Assault Helicopter Battalion. It is my old unit from Vietnam. Thought you might like to see the pics. I'm also including a link to great video history from past to present day at Ft. Hood, TX.

All the best on this Memorial Day!

Went to the Lantern Floating Hawaii ceremony today.

We floated a lantern in remembrance of my friends and shipmates long gone, but not forgotten.

Beautiful ceremony.

Photos when I can figure out how to post them.

Thumbs up Good news today.....

Agent Orange Disability Claim submitted.....4-10-13

Approval notification arrived in todays mail.

Word of advise...avoid the National Veterans advocates, (DAV and such), go with your State Local Rep. My original claim, submitted by the DAV, lacked the required paperwork, re-submission by my local State Advocate was approved in 6mos.

Semper-fi

Veterans Fall In!

US Army 1976 - 1995
VietNam era draft ended the year I was eligible, later I enlisted. Later still I took early retirement for prior service enlisteds post Desert Shield/Storm down sizing.
1st half enlisted, E6, in HAWK direct support maintenance in Germany during the cold war on the Fulda Gap.
2nd half officer, O3, health care administration, 18th ABC, USAJFKSWCS, 101st Abn, 5th SFG, NTC Opns Gp.
My retirement out processing comment when asked "The Army needs professional captains, up or out is dumb and wasting money." A few years later it was so.

You went in when I came out
I find it interesting that you stayed years in some locations. The longest time I spent anywhere, in 3 years, was 9 months. Just about the time I got settled I got moved out.

I think of my drill Sargent once in a while. He was tough but fair. For a scared 19 year old he made life a little better. He did teach me about uniformity (standardization). Some of us fell out one morning when it was drizzling. Some wore ponchos, some didn't. We spent the next hour putting them on and then rolling 'em up an putting them on the utility belt again, running into the old Ft Knox barracks to do so. After an hour, we understood, never forgot that lesson.

Welcome aboard, happy you made it back to the real world.

ALL VETS!!!

Just want to put this out there, as I'm a "New Jack" maybe I missed this in an earlier post, but it should be restated, those of us who raised our right hand to defend this country's ideals (whether PC today or not) are a special group of individuals. I don't think we are all heros as the public wants to "throw" around so easily. However, if your reading this, you are not only special, but are also a "survivor" at least physically of your commitment to this country's freedom. There are no "regular" guys/gals, officers/ enlisted, Marines(OK, an exception, LOL), Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors or Coastguardsmen, Active/Reserve/National Guard we are all "special"(not short bus) citizens, remember that. I don't think you ever look at the flag/nation the same again after you have offered your life to her. Finally, lets not forget the folks who supported our service, I know my wife is a prisoner of "my" war and I know some of you know what I'm talking about. She is my savior and a Godsend from above... To All, live long and travel safe...

"Still looking for our AS"

Regards,
James and Rebecca
