Hi, and yes, where is my good friend Bob Cross? If nothing else, he never misses this thread.

Fellow veterans,
I wanted to take a second to share this message with all of you. I’m a service connected veteran myself and Veteranserviceconnected.com (VSC) helped me increase my VA ratings.
If your service connected condition worsened or if you were not properly awarded in the past give these guys a call. It worked for me, my brother and a couple of friends. Just wanted to take a second to share as it was life changing for me.

My experience...

When I got my "Agent Orange" cancer diagnosis in 2013 I had already been on disability since I was discharged in '68.
I contacted the DAV for help, they submitted the claim right away, and told me I would be eligible for an increase, or so I thought. VA said they were still waiting for the DAV forms.
2.5 years later and still no word from the VA, I called our local NYS Veterans Rep, she resubmitted and in 3 months it was done. Retroactive to when the first DAV claim was initiated.

My takeaway...Go as local as you can, they are more focused on the individual, less swamped and will usually get things done ASAP.

Same with VA Charities...go local and get the service directly where it should go, not to the excessive administrative costs in the large Nationals.

I couldn’t agree with you more! With VSC I had the same rep and was able to call with questions and concerns all times of the day. Having someone local or someone you can constantly communicate with saves a heck of a lot of stress!

Thanks, from a PT Grunt

Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment, Infantry. Served during First Gulf Invasion, never called up. Thank my lucky stars. Had a private in my platoon tell me he wanted to sign up to go kill some ragheads. Put him on councelling and probation. Funny enough, his father was the shrink who did not want me in uniform because I had admitted to doing drugs in my entrance interview....
" A soldier is the last person who wants to go to war.." unknown.

having said that, my hat goes off to all those who bore arms in the name of their own or others' countries.

I am not a veteran. I read this thread because so often the contributors express, either directly or indirectly, the human condition that enables one to have hope. Your comments have eloquently contributed my having hope. Thank you. Jim

Today is the 75th anniversary of VE day.

Hoist a cold one to America's Greatest Generation. Thank you for your many sacrifices. And God Bless you, one and all.

VF24 - USS Hancock 72' cruise...in country 5 times Bin Hoa and Da Nang on maintenance missions...fun times taking off and landing on Hanna! Pics include me as troubleshooter on F-8 launch, Hanna prior to landing, and me haming it up in my cool "greens" in Bin Hoa. Remember when they sent me in first time; at 3am- "your to be on the flight deck at 0:400 and pack for 10 days; go down to the armory and get a sidearm!" "What?? I'm in the Navy...everyone laughs, and of the 6 of us, one from each squadron, only the LT went and got a sidearm"! We all thought the MA who woke us and handed us our orders was joking with us about the gun, at the time..

During the 72 and 73 cruises I was a snipe electrician working the flight deck on the Hanna. Catapults were my specialty. I left in Aug 74 for shore duty. Had I known what lay in store for her during the next year, I would have stayed for the excitement. (Evacuation of Saigon)

Second photo is near the end of my career in 2007 as a Chief Seabee Electrician.
