I wroe this on Veteran's Day in honor of my family. I know today is Veteran's day, a day in which we honor those who serve, however, we should not forget the families of our Veterans. They also served. Maybe not in combat but they were with us all the way. They worried about us, moved with us and stayed home when we deployed. Our mothers and our wives may not have openly shared their concerns about if we would return because in their hearts they knew we would. Unfortuately not all did leaving families to grieve their lost love ones. Even our children served. They moved with us, leaving friends behind, to foreign lands with diffferent cultures, new school with different curriculums and to make new friends. As Claire says our children may not know how to ride a bike on a buzy street but they could get through customs in any country. It is unfortunate that I have no photos of my Dad in my album a Navy veteran of WW II and a real hero in my eyes.
So please do not forget the Veteran's family. In my eyes they are also heroes.

I have never and will never forget the things that my family went through for me! They did so much for me and supported me through all of it including the nightmares the paranoid moments the depression and not to mention the deployments the transfers the endless training cycles and celebrated with me at my retirement! They are so special and yes when you need to be accepted by your 6 and 4 year old they did. Now they are 33 and 31 and we have 6 grandchildren!

81-86 Army 35G/35U E5 BioMed X-Ray Specialist. Still in the X-Ray field only making it now instead of fixing it.

Dad was Air Force/Army.
Brother was Marine.
Youngest brother was Army.

Proud to be an American but struggling with the current national direction. Seems like there are forces that would remove God from everything. Breaks My Heart it does!!

McDave, i was with Golf, 2/26, 5th Div. We were attached to the 3rd Div when i got there in Oct 66, loaned out to the 1st Div in Jan 67, then back to the 3rd until the 5th Headquarters finally arrived in country. I think we did one or two operations with 2/9.

Hi Terry. I came over with the battalion from Camp Pendleton. It was 1/5 of the 1st Mar Div in Pendleton, and then became 2/9 of the 3rd Mar Div. We landed in Da Nang in mid-'65, after doing some training in Okinawa. I think we were the second regular Marine battalion to be sent to Vietnam, after 3/3 that operated to the south of us out of Chu Lai. I started as a 3.5 rocket gunner, then transitioned to 60mm mortars after they decided that 3.5's were not useful in Vietnam, and finally ended up as a FO for 81's. We fought as a unit for a while, but then when they established the 13 month rotation policy, they split us up so we wouldn't all be going home at the same time. When we first got to Vietnam, there was no rotation policy, and we were wondering if we were going to be there for the duration, like the guys in WWII, which would have been a long time!
