Trying to Get Comfortable on a Park Bench Because......

....the FAN will be at the dealership for a week for some warranty/service work.

They said they are really "backed up." I believe them. Their service parking lot was like an Indy 500 for RVs this morning.

Is this typical at your dealership or wherever it is you get your AS serviced during the spring busy season?

Darnitt! I miss my trailer.

And baby, it's cold outside.
Current conditions, FVBC: partly cloudy

You could always boondock in the parking lot. Just take your pick.

I never thought of that. I bet some full-timers do just that. Not a bad deal for the dealership; they get a night watchman!

All you need is a gun and a badge. I would pick out a 34 ft classic w ultra leather. Just try some doors. Somebody will bail you out.

Damn that was fun. Ah to be young and footloose again. Try it out at the dealer. I think that might really work out. We used to do a lot of skiing up in Whistler before it became so trendy and hard to cross the border. We would come up there and load upon some two twenty two's' and ski until we couldn't stand up. Whistler sux now. Every weekend every yuppie in Seattle and Vancouver ruins it for everyone. Expensive and crowded. Well enough ranting. Stay warm and be safe.

It is at my dealership. Not uncommon for a one month waiting period before a repair date this time of year. The good news is that they do have a small 4 site campground, with water and electric, for overnight repairs and service. If possible, I try to arrange it so they take delivery on the actual day of service, so it doesn't just sit there for a week.
Airstream withdrawal can be tough.

I just tried to get mine in for warranty repair on the water sensor, and the dealer is FULL! He told me he could definitely squeeze me in if I bring it, but if I could wait a week to clear out some of the spring rush, it would be best. If possible, I like to take mine in at the end of year for winterization, then give them a list of minor repairs or mods to work on as they have time. Ther's no rush for me to get it back, and I know I'm ready to rock and roll come spring!

Hmmm, with an Interstate we are rarely at an Airstream dealership for anything.

Peterbilt, Onan, Dodge body shop, etc., pretty well deal with things, with little wait time. We have also been to a couple of the local RV dealers for things.

Maybe some needs of the trailers can be handled by independents such as these?

I do love the picture of the park bench!

Park Bench?

Great pic, but I would go home and wait. Just a personal preference I guess...

For once, I thought ahead and booked a service visit a month in advance - and only just managed the date I wanted! Here in the Great White North, the Snow Birds return at the same time the summer campers need their RVs and the service bays are packed to capacity - That's life I guess.

MrUK, never thought of that - the snowbirds returning in May. Makes sense.

Still trailerless. This morning I was looking for something I need desperately, then realized it's in the trailer. It's been at the dealership 11 days now.

I think I'll head down and see what's going on.

Well, the trailer is done. They are just finishing the paperwork. If anyone thinks RV'g is going the way of the dinosaur, they should visit my dealership. The units are lined-up for service like a McDonalds drive-thru on a Saturday night. A big dealership that carries a multitude of models and types is a good place to RV/people watch. I actually found it to be a bit of a scream. One old lady who can barely walk jumps into her 40' Class A and roars off. The empty space is quickly replaced by a SOB trailer that is being wheeled around by a guy driving a forklift. This guy is the Mario Andretti of forklift drivers. I'm amazed by his skill - the way he moves the trailers around the lot.

Also inquired about the price of a 30' AS. I am pretty well certain that full-timing is in the cards. As much as I love the FAN, that extra room would make all the difference. What I would really like is a bedroom with just one twin bed so I could turn the other side into a computer work area. They are going to phone the factory to see if this would be possible. Just thinkin'......for now.

Will pick up the FAN tomorrow or Friday. It's been a long two weeks!

Thumbs up

FAN,

GREAT photo!!! Looks like the one I lived under back in the day.

Be thankful you have a good dealer in your area....NYS still without any.

Glad the experience was a positive one.
