We decided we should call our 78 Sovereign Rosie. The wife joked several times that I needed to ask "Rosie the Riveter" about how the Airstream was put together...

So we called it Rosie in honor of "Rosie the Riveter"

My old girl finally told me her name today. (Until today I wasn't even sure of her gender). On this perfect late autumn Texas afternoon as I was lying underneath her riviting in a section that had broken loose from her belly pan she whispered her name; She said, "It's 'Ami'. Ami with an 'i'."

It's French I'm told for my "Aluminum Mistress".

Just Curious "Guitars"

What are you smoking?
"Aluminum Mistress"...the meaning of Ami..? Why
"Aluminum"?
Why I'm asking is that.my family has 2 Amiee's...and other French names b/c we are part French...and I'm very curious about this meaning. Wouldn't it be just "Mistress"?

The Curious Cat (you know what they say).

P.S. How did 'she' Whisper to you. Were you using BonAmi cleaner? LOL

Translation

But, in French, "Ami" means "friend"..
"Cher Ami" means "Dear Friend". which is the translation and (reason) for the scouring powder being called "Bon Ami"
because it means "Good Friend".
But "Aluminum Mistress" in French would be "Courtesan d'aluminum" or "MaÓtresse d'aluminium" (this one is nearly the same in English.

Perhaps your A/S IS your Best Friend...& "She" was whispering that she is (your Friend... (isn't that nice? n'est pas? )

Votre Ami,

Hi! I'm a new lurker and wanted to share the name I have for our AS, the Silver Palace. On a personal note to Brett and Edie: I had a great time down at Orange Lake camping with the Silver Springs Unit. You two did a great job. Thanks!!!

Saw a post somewhere from a guy who had named his Minuet "Andre".

Get it, "Andre Argosy".

Hello cousin

Pat,
Welcome to the Forum. You will find everything you want to know about Airstreams and how to fix and maintain them. Andy at Inland RV is a super resource of information and has many parts that you might need.

Cat, Too Funny! French is the only subject (besides chemistry, oh, the irony in that one) that I made an F in a course that I never repeated. I believe that according to my source ( the NY Times Crosswords) that "Ami" means friend or companion. And as for the whisper. Looking back the sound may have come from the buckling of the belly pan when I banged my head on it. Buckling aluminum with the pop back does say "A-mi". And if you have ever spent a perfect afternoon lying underneath an Airstream doing "sweat work" and enjoying every minute of it then you have met an "A luminum MI stress". Her name is "Ami with an i" and that is how her name will be displayed.

Bon Ami

I think that's a Grand name... "Ami"...(& that's the way names are "borne".. Mine came from a Serial number IN the Airstream itself (see what I mean?)

Thanks for the post responding to mine.

Your humor and creative writing talents should be shared often (maybe that's where you would have gotten your "A"..!) I look forward to them again.

What's in a name?

Wow! And people were giving me a hard time because I couldn't come up with anything to do during the cold weather. Such a plethora of nomenclature. This disease we share runs quite deep apparently. Well, my sweetie is called the Miss West Virginia. Her original bill of sale comes from West Virginia and she possesses a faded decal on the side that appears to be the great Seal of the state of West Virginia. As regal as that sounds the excursion that pulls her is known as Big Bertha. My wife named her that vowing never to drive her. Ah, but how times change. Now she loves sitting up high and bullying all the smaller four wheelers. Life is good!

Still working on a name for our TT.

Our bus conversion (40' ex-Greyhound bus) is called "The Pour Haus" -- one of my many hobbies is homebrewing beer hence the "Pour" plus the 'play on words': (Poor House).

The "Big Orange Monster" truck we pull our Airstream with will be called "Mountain Ghost" --- climbs Rockie Mt passes with ease.

Wonder if the truck name could also be applied to the TT, since it is a team effort?

Good thinking has been shown on this thread. Thanks, crew!!
