The finish that a wax supplies is very thin and the constant motion of a cover will soon wear through that.

I think it'll actually scratch the newly polished finish. Aluminum is pretty soft...and it'll abrade the polished portion making it look dull again with tiny little scratches. It'll also be uneven, only looking dull in the rubbed areas.
