Thanks!
Current issues are carried by Books-a-million and others. You can also go to the Airstream Life web site and order a copy, IIRC @$8/copy.

Is anyone still able to see the images I posted? I'm not seeing them, they seem to be gone.

The TAB actually is quite similar in design, and I'd be more interested in it if it were not for the fact that I can't stand up straight in one. Yet, the TAB has managed to stay in the market place, whereas Airstream's Basecamp hasn't. Why is that? They are both about the same size as the Torpedo and the similarities don't seem coincidental.

Although I do agree with Frank. I eventually am going to try a complete layout with aluminum framing.

I have a picture of PeeWee holding up the plans for the Torpedo on my non-functioning computer so I'll go look through my back-up drive and see what I can find.

That was easier than I thought. I took the original photo and only kept the plans on this image. I had to skew them to get them straight and really touched them up in PhotoShop. Can't really read the measurements here so I'll go back and look at the original image to see if it has better resolution.

These are really simplistic and left alot for the builder to figure out like the curve for the front. I don't know if there were other sheets that showed the frame or not. I would have imagined there would be something to work off of for the frame, axle, springs and tongue.

I can't wait to see a build thread on one, or even better, see one at a rally. Forrest, please keep the articles coming, I'm really enjoying the history.

While WBCCI says that any Airstream (including those made from a set of original plans from "the early years") is welcome at one of their rallies (if the owner is a member), I wonder if they would allow a "new" DIY Torpedo to attend...sure would garner a lot of attention.

Also, Pee Wee needs to know that his plans have been published here on the net. He might not approve as they are presented here.

They're not Dale's, and really they're not even Dr. Holman's - the plans are Wally's.

I appreciate seeing interest in ground up building of older designs.

I agree with Forrest about the T@B. We owned one some years ago, liked it except I couldn't stand up in it either. I wonder if it is still on the market because of price? I'd say it also looks great.

WOW... I never thought that we would see this activity when I kicked this thread. From the posts that have been made on this thread, it looks like I'm not the only one thats been thinking about building the Torpedo. I'm also considering the aluminum construction route as well.

Thanks Forrest!.. Great job on the Airstream Life article! It really fired me up about this doing this build. MsRivet and I have been receiving Airstream Life since the first issue and I agree that this issue is one of the best to date.

OK... who's the first kid on the block to build a new Torpedo?

Safe Travels!!!
Tim

Thanks to Forrest for the excellent Airstream Life article and everyone who contributed here. If we keep putting together enough bits and pieces someone will come up with some working drawings.

Does one in VR count?
I did this up last winter for a modeling project. Planned on using a Ford model A car kit for running gear and details. Body would have been embossed .010 styrene sheet, with bars and channels from Evergreen.
Best laid plans..… Picked up another Vintage trailer and have spent the last year working on the real thing.

Tom.
