Days Spent in Airstream

We picked up our new to us Airstream in August 2011. Our camping nights per year have been:

2011: 5

2012: 30

2013: 101

For 2014 we should spend at least 150 nights in the Airstream.

I'd say the trend is positive.

Love it. We lived in the Bambi for 4 months in our front yard a couple years back while our home was being repaired after a flood. What a godsend that was!

We will spend around 150 night traveling in 2014. Up from around 100 this year.

I am on here 4-6 times a day in the winter, much less in the summer or when traveling

We managed to exceed 140 days in 2011 and 2012, but fell short this year as our immobile homestead needed extensive maintenance: only 41 so far.

We spend about 6-8 weeks in the trailer escaping the cold weather each winter, typically Arizona or Florida with various stops en route. Have been to California with it a couple of times too.

This annual getaway is the main reason we have the trailer. Many people stay south a lot longer than we do, but generally we both feel we are ready to head home after that period of time.

Other than that, we get away with it maybe twice during the summer, sometimes traveling with our daughter and her family who recently got into RV'ing, and often just the two of us will go away for a week or two in September when everyone's kids are back in school and Provincial / State parks are easy to get into.

The main reason we don't use it more is that we store the trailer about a half hour from our house and it is a bit of a pain bringing it home, cleaning and packing it for shorter trips.

As well, in summer, I like to travel on a few overnighters with our motorcycle. I built a small luggage trailer to tow behind so we have plenty of storage space for the two of us.

When at home, I spend quite a lot of time on the internet, and check this forum usually several times a day for threads that interest me and news!

Brian.

The question was the amount of time we travel (all the answers seem to be how many nights we slept) versus time we are on the forum.

I am on the forum almost every day. I guess 350 days out of 365.
As for sleeping in my Airstream, I keep a travel / maintenance log, so these nights are accurate:
28 nights - 2010 - (25 in 30' & 3 in 25') (retired Dec 2010)
90 nights - 2011
107 nights - 2012
120 nights - 2013 (84 in 25' & 36 in 34') (includes all nights thru 31 Dec 2013 since we will be away from home)

We hope to add 30 more days away in 2014. Though we have no plans to full time.

Wow Gary living in Ohio that's a lot of nights. It's really cool to see that so many of you actually do spend a lot of time in the AS on the road.... Congrats!

Since June of 2006 we have spent 1,378 nights in the Airstream and we have towed it 120,000 miles. This amounts to 47% of our time.

We will try to do better in the future.

Very interesting.... Two Airstreams? How do you decide which one goes and which stays? I keep a log book too. I imagine a lot of us do. It surprises me how much time people spend on the forum.

Same here unless you are hardy enough to camp in-40 weather.

Brian,

You make me feel like an old Airstream window.

Maybe 45 nights- I forgot about that trip to the coast in November-
The number will increase in 2014 with our first trip being in January.

One 2 day trip with 1 night sleeping in it so far (Lost Dutchman).
Years on the Forum BA (before airstream).
One year of ownership before taking it out.
Tons of time on the Forum AA (after airstream) mobile app primarily.
Planning on one more 2 day trip with 1 more night this year (Picacho).
So 2 nights in 2013.
It can only get better.

This thread is somewhat surprising to me. I Did Not Realize The Bulk Of Owners Had This Kind Of time. We have estimated we will use ours roughly 25 to 40 nights a year depending on if we have extended travel in it. It will mostly be used for weekend travel and 1 week trip a year. Also I have been looking into the possibility of getting hookups at home for a guest house. I wouldn't be able to leave it out all the time but I would hook it up as needed.

The 25' will be for road trips all over the US and Canada for the next 10-15 years (we hope). It will live alone in NC during the winter.

The 34' will live in FL. It will be our winter home from November through March. We plan to do short trips from our winter home as long as we are able. Then we plan to use it at one location after we are no longer able to tow.
