Unlike Silvertwinkie I can't keep the trailer at home to play in so it will be buttoned up in my inside winter storage location while I dream of warmer days.....

Congrats, Jack! I knew when you said you had the 'classic' bug, that there'd be one on the horizon! Are you going to disclose the details to all of us who are envious?

Jack....for you and Patty, you can leave the unit at my house anytime!
Looks like you and I may have sister units built along side each other on the line. My order went in first thing this AM eastern time.
Given the distance, I'll be using my Bambi a few more times then, as of early December, I may, depending on salt conditions, take the new one for a few non-driveway camping trips locally (within 50 miles).
I talked with Airstream today...busy, busy, busy. For all I care, they can take until January or Feb as long as the unit has the QC things ironed out!

Well it was long term but the advent of the new tow vehicle opened the doors for something bigger and heavier. I figured I best make this move while I'm still working and getting some income. Once into retirement I might not have been willing to pull the trigger.
Interesting tidbits procured from the Airstream rep at the rally, included his statement that the slide out unit is molded from fiberglass and is then clad in aluminum. The drive unit is a single screw type auger that is centered in the middle of the slide out.
Slide out units do not get the vinal floor entryway into the trailer since the stainless steel wheels under the slide out unit need to roll across carpeted areas.

I'll cross my fingers that delivery from Jackson Center to STL will take place on a clear dry day without giving the undercarriage a salt bath.

Anyone know how they actually ship and deliver Airstreams? I'd think it would be a bit more difficult sending 2 or 3 of these to some dealership than a cars on a car carrier might be.

Eric, they are usually delivered by folks who specialize in RV transport. Most use a regular pickup truck. Hang around a Flying J for a few minutes, and you'll probably see a TT, or a Fiver being delivered "somewhere".

It would be interesting to see a fiver.
Call me crazy, but that is one of the reasons I decided to buy near the factory so that the dealer could pick it up "locally" and I could pamper it on the way home.
Not to scare folks, but I have heard some real nasty in transit stories. On a positve note though, think of how many make it without issue.....I'm a bit excessive compulsive...whadda want from me?

Eric, the dealer may even let you go down and pick it up. They still want to "prep" it though.

Springtime in Minnesota
Agree with the Wisconsinites-October and November are the peak season. First camping trip me made was northern Minnesota, in a pick-up camper no less.

Thoughts on end of camping season
What In north florida. It has just gotten cool enough to enjoy being outside more than 10 minutes without getting totally soaked by sweat. Its just starting camping season down here.
