The Perfect Trip
How would you describe the "perfect trip" with your Airstream?
Is it the location- New England to watch the leaves turning, friends and family, kids or no kids, time of the year, the journey, the destination, a rally, sitting around the campfire, fishing for your meal, your favorite meal, meeting new people, is it a trip you have taken or dreamed about taking, how long do you stay, etc. I think you get the idea.
It would be great to get a cross-section of Airstreamers sharing their "perfect trip"!! I will have to give mine some thought and then post it.

My travel preferences tend to be somewhat eclectic - - and few if any of my friends share my enthusiasm for my favorite RELAXATION Vacation. The route takes me through some fantastic Midwestern scenery.
My first stop is a leisurely one-hour from my new home-base in Anna, IL at Sikeston, Missouri at Lamberts Cafe for a "throwed-rolls" lunch (from my home IL 146 East to I-57 South). After lunch at Lamberts Cafe, I continue on from Sikeston on US 60 West stopping at Lamberts Cafe near Springfield, Missouri for dinner and then locate a campground for the first night on the road.
My second day begins from a campground near Springfield, Missouri. I contine from Springfield, Missouri for a short distance on I-44 West to the Kansas state line. Once in Kansas, I exit I-44 onto US 166 West to Coldwater, Kansas where I begin looking for a campground for the second night - - many of the small Kansas towns have hookups for RVs in their city parks (they are not always advertised so I have been known to inqure at city halls regarding their availability).
My third day is very short as I only drive from Coldwater to Russell, Kansas utilizing US 281 North for most of this day's journey. I generally spend several days at one of the two campgrounds located in Russell, Kansas. While there, I like to tour the Wilson Lake area, as well as make side trips to the Garden of Eden, Glen Elder Lake, Fort Hays State University, and renew friendships all along the Paradise Creek between Paradise and Codell. This is often a good time to find a cafe that serves the local specialty called Bierocks - - a delicious pocket sandwich filled with gound beef and saurkraut.
When I resume traveling, I follow Kansas Highway 18 West to somewhere near the Colorado state line where I switch over to US 24 West to the my usual terminus for this trip in the Colorado Springs region. While in the Colorado Springs region, I always try to include a trip to Cripple Creek along the Phantom Canyon highway with a return on the Stage Coach Trail. The highlight of this portion of my trip is usually a trip to Pikes Peak.
I am one of those quirky people who loves to travel in Kansas - - almost no traffic on the secondary roads, fantastic scenery, and numerous off-beat attractions.

I loved our big "around-the-west" trip this year, but it was very busy and hectic. My favorite trips are ones where we stop somewhere for a few days at a time and have time to just sit around and read a book and really rest. Every year we make at least one trip to Ashland, Oregon for 4-5 days where we camp by a lake, relax and read books by day, even found time to kick back and do a x-word puzzle, and go into town to catch a play at the theater in the evening. A big difference from our never-sit-still life at home. That to me is perfect.

Well, almost perfect....
We just came back from Ft. Wilderness at Disney World. A very nice campground, that was like a ghost town. Many loops completely empty, only 4 units in our loop. Did see two newer Airstreams, but did not get a chance to talk to any of the owners.
With Hurricane Jeanne on the way it was suggested by the management that we leave early. Hated leave when the weather was so perfect.
