The Party

Maybe I'm getting to the party a little late. I see the posts about quality, or lack of, in the newer airstreams. But I still believe they're built well, right?
We're off camping (sorry, RVing), my wife says that the drawer under the bed is stuck. I look only to find that the bottom has fallen out. All the staples, and I mean alot, could'nt hold the towels we put in there. So I transfer them to the drawer on the side only to have that bottom fall through. I called Kevin, the service tech, at Colonial. He couldn't believe it wasn't in a grove like a regular drawer would be. If it wasn't such a hassle, I would take the drawers up to Lakehurst just to say, "what the f**k?"
I'll glue and fasten them myself, but seriously, if this is what airstream does with something that goes on the third trip, how am I supposed to believe it's gonna last my lifetime?
Don't get me wrong, I love the girl, my anger is toward whoever cut this corner.

I hear ya!

Hi, I don't really have too much to complain about on my trailer or how it was built, for the most part. But I removed the plywood bed top and found some little square sticks that were stapled to the main bed frame. These little square sticks were where the screws went to hold the bed top in place. Some of these were about ready to fall off. I tapped them back on, drilled pilot holes from the other side, and screwed them in place. They won't come loose now. STAPLES ARE FOR SOBs not Airstreams.

It does seem sometimes that they are turning chimpanzees loose with drills and screwdrivers, and saying "have at it". Let's hope they have gotten the message and are going to be doing things differently in the future. In the meantime, let's all beat a path to the Mother Ship and insist that problems are fixed.
