Thanks for posting, Sivertwinkie...Nice article, and confirms much of what most of us already know who have Airstreams... And we're the lucky ones! Imagine dragging that SOB around...at least ours are aerodynamic!

too bad they relied on...

1. a wb rep. while fuel prices may be partly responsible for declining attendance at the international,

attendance declined ALL through the LOW PRICE GAS years too,

gas isn't the reason for the drop off...

2. the other folks quoted, JUST started traveling in a trailer a few weeks ago?

towing with cruise control isn't that great of an approach to boosting mpg...

anyone who has towed much learns this quickly, use the cruise control ONLY in specific conditions.

and while gps is COOL, the shortest routes often are UP and OVER hills that also eat gas or through high traffic log jams...

so a gentile foot on the throttle, taking the 2 lane roads, OR using the interstate where it cuts through steep regions...

are better ways to squeeze miles from gallons.

I can at least speak to the "better than other trailers" gas mileage. I have owned my Airstream for not quite a year. I recently went back to a place I had gone with my previous 25 ft trailer. That previous trip took a complete tank of gas in my truck, I arrived on fumes. When going back to the same place, with the same size trailer (but this one is an Airstream) and same truck, I arrived at my destination with more than a quarter tank of gas in my truck. That's pretty good by my standards.

It may only be a "burp" - but at noon today the cost of oil had dropped to $116.35 (+/-) per barrel and the dollar was going up in value! If that trend continues I hope it doesn't pacify us into thinking that the crisis is over!!! My vote is still for a reduction in the speed limit to 55 mph, drilling wherever necessary, nuclear power, continued research into new energy sources, and making Iraq pay back monies spent and those that remain to be spent restoring their country to a democratic republic. As for trips with the Airstream - we can have just as much fun staying close to home. When my family was young, and while living in Florida, we seldom traveled more than a hundred miles from home to camp and, in fact, we spent over 125 nights at Ft. DeSota campground in St. Pete, Florida - 25 miles from our home!
