Tampa RV Show- Review

This is a smaller regional show of just dealers that Tampa has every year. The BIG show is in January where the mfgr's show up with their rigs.

Bates RV, our local Airstream dealer had an 04' Bambi and an 04' Safari. Nice units. Stood out quite nicely amongst all the fiberglass.

I of course got in to a conversation with the one attending sales rep. He was an elderly gentleman, and sadly, not much of an Airstream enthusiast. This dealer sells SOB's also. He did tell me that they have a 25 footer from 1957 on their lot for sale, as well as a few other late 60's 30 and 31 foot trailers. Some of which he said were almost immaculate. Pricing on the 60's models were in the upper $6 g's. He was just "recollecting" the prices. They have a web site.

I asked the sales guy if they can get parts for vintage trailers. His reply was, "We can find ya just about anything!" He didn't sound too convincing.

With only two Airstreams for me to fawn over, I ended up checking out some of the other trailers. I don't really need to say this, but... There is just no comparison between those plastic trailers and an AS. Vintage or new. The fit and finish on my 30+ year old trailer blew those things out of the water! They were shaky, and rickety. Some of the sinks had chrome like plastic faucets that would snap off in a heartbeat. Some of the trailers that were about the same length as mine were close to $20 grand. To be fair, there were a few with nice layouts and what appeared to be decent quality, but the price jumped on those.

All in all, it was a good way to kill a few hours and satisfy my need for aluminum. If you are in the area, I wouldn't recommend wasting your money. It was $5 to park, and $3 to get in! Wait until the BIG one in January.

This review is totally unbiased.

This review is totally unbiased.

I know the feeling.

I stopped at a large local SOB's dealer to pick up a fitting the other day (really nice building and facility - good selection of RV "stuff").

Just 'cause I was there I strolled through a couple of the MH's on the floor.

Cardboard and staples!

'Nuff said.
