Thief has good taste in RV's. I would look for it to be in the aluminum scrap yard by now.

Pictures? The trailer could be sitting in my front yard and I wouldn't know it's the stolen trailer based on the description.

anyone notice the large number of Airstream thefts in the Pacific Northwest? It seems there is one a month.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f48/...eam-85927.html This one was also stolen from a dealer in Covington, Wash. just before Christmas 2011- but a tip led to it's recovery. I doubt yours was taken to a scrapyard; it's around somewhere. Good luck getting it back!

I don't know if the cost would be worth it, but there are lots of vehicle tracking options that could also be concealed in an Airstream. Most rely on having a cell-phone connection though...

I put LoJack in mine. They have special rates for trailers. Might be worth looking into, given what we paid for these things.

First dealer should install coupler lock very in expensive on all units would deter theft, I would not ever leave my A.S. vunerable to theft or any of my flat beds it works. This is a no brainer to stop thefts

Scrap Value never crossed my mind..
Just great,,, some pot or crack head tows my AS off and cuts it up for scrap,,. Another worry now to think about..
Few years ago,, and I'm talking an area with only 1 stop light in over 900 square miles,, we had a meth lab just 4 miles north of our farm.. What got them nailed was Alum ladders,, Alum tanks and other items made of Alum were walking off folks farms by the semi load at night,.,. Got the local Barney out in the country and then found the meth lab..
So,, don't think I will pull my trailer to the lake a few days ahead of time to hold a spot.. Thanks for the wake notice.

Doesnt announcing the fact that you have LoJack installed in your trailer somewhat diminish its effectiveness? I am guessing that if a thief wanted your trailer and knew of Lojacks presence he could easily jam the signal. This makes me wonder if Lojack is cellular based does a cell jammer protect the thief from discovery by the Police. Just kind of wondering

I am somewhat amazed by the train of thought here...
Thieves monitor Air to make note of who has lojack? Seriously?
also, a pot head would never put the effort into cutting up your Airstream. That would require too much effort and would be a total buzz kill.
Cutting up Airstreams for scrap is not a big money maker as some think. The math does not work out even remotely close to the effort you put into it. With weed at $500 an once, you got to do A LOT of scraping.
Most folks think it petty criminals. I strongly suspect it is highly organized crime.

But they don't know where my trailer is...and it's not in Glendale. LoJack is RF based. Not perfect, but gives me some comfort.

I contacted the dealer and they will post pics of the trailer and info about the interior package and badging that might help ID the trailer.
Bummer about the theft.

What I am wondering is Who steals an Airstream? If Lojack is RF based it can be jammed. No monitoring necessary just jam in case it is there at all! Get the trailer to where you can inspect it and remove the LoJack. I am certain that LoJack is great for stopping the casual thief but I doubt a seasoned pro would be slowed by it. So who exactly is stealing these things? I believe most auto theft is driven by the demand for used parts, is there a market for used Airstream parts? It might be interesting to know.

Missouri is supposed to be the meth capitol of the world. Our mpg sits either right in the front yard or right behind the house where it is less visible from the street but more visible from in the house. Either way it is locked and a lock is on the hitch. Someone who knew us might know when to come steal it, but we have one of the best security systems known to man - a nosy neighbor. If she sees anything funny, she would call her grandkids, who would show up with various "artillery."
Seriously, I doubt that there is much a dealership can do to prevent this type of theft. Lots of security cameras can record the theft, and maybe give the police some sort of description of the thieves, but what can prevent the theft in the first place? People have reported trailers stolen from locked buildings.
One thought I had, and I don't know what the frame would "think" about this, is to remove the tires and put a locking lugnut on each wheel. The trailer would then have to be supported only by the corner jacks, and I suspect that that may not be all that wise. Maybe some jack stands? I realize this would be a lot of work, but then the loss of even one trailer is a major pain for the dealer.

Frank, I'm not about to challenge anyone on what a dope head would do but around here they steal support beams and cross members from high power lines. Now that takes effort.
A new trailer would give them alot of attention, something they do not want. So probably you are right.
You have a good sense for the obvious, and that is a compliment, there have been alot of thefts reported from the NW US on this forum and it seems to be getting worse lately. I'm sure a MOD with some time can put all the threads in one post to show the pattern and help prove your point. Could be this is a common thief or group that has found a great system for making some quick cash.
Hope it's found and they catch the guy who took it. Till then, get a good lock and a chain through the wheels.
Mike

Hi, last time that I was at George Sutton RV, they had coupler locks on all of the trailers that I saw on the lot.
Why was it stolen? Lots of speculation, but you might not know until it is recovered, if found. At a Ford dealer that I worked at, there was a big black F-250 4X4 stolen from our lot. It was found about one week later in an alley and towed back to the dealer. It was stolen for the nice alloy wheels with off-road tires. It came to the dealership with old rusty chrome wheels and badly worn out off-road tires on it.
