Unhappy Stolen Argosy - South Georgia - Recovered!

Please keep your eyes and ears open for our 77 6.0 Argosy Minuet. It was stolen from us after having to leave on the side of I-75 just north of exit 78 between Ashburn and Tifton Georgia. This happened Wednesday evening (08/15/12).

Distinguishing marks are the ugly rear bumper with generator stand and spare tire holder, dings on the front lower "driver side" panels, burgandy color underneath and on hitch and wheels, tinted front windows with bubbles.

I was bring it home after buying less then 24 hours prior .

Any suggestions? Filed report with local sheriff, checking Craigslist, local tire stores (two flats), and local scrap dealers.

That absolutely sucks.

Could something about the reason you had to leave it by the road tell what the thieving scum may need to do soon to keep the trailer moving? Tires, brakes, bearings, etc.? That could be useful info for police, though I guess you can't question everyone who goes to a trailer supply looking for tires or brakes.

Very sad to hear.
Have you checked with the tow companies in the area. Maybe it was removed from the side of the road and sent to an impound lot.

So very sorry to hear about your new Argosy. You might check with the the Highway patrol, Georgia might call them State Troopers. It is possible they thought the Argosy had been abandon and had it impounded. They would enter the Vin # into the stolen vehicle system for sure, some times there is an issue with the plate and vin not matching so the plate will not be entered with the vehicle. You might contact the last person it was registered to. When a vehicle is impounded they are required to send out impound notices to last registered owner, buyer, pending owner with in five days. Ask police who has the police tow contract and make a visit. Be nice and explain the situation they might be more helpful, if you have a photo. Start getting things together, Registered owner or the buyers id, registration, and purchase agreement if not registered. You will need these in order to obtain a release for the agency that impounded the Argosy.

We will keep a lookout over here as well! GA Highway Patrol will quickly tow "abandoned" trailers next to interstates, Hopefully that is all that happened. There is a GA state patrol post in Tifton; it might be worth a call if the local sheriff did not do that already.

I'll spread the word to friends and family in the area. Def call GA state patrol. They may have a possible log of seeing it roadside, good luck !

Good news. The argosy was found abandoned tonight by the sheriffs office. Amazingly, with no apparent damage. The door was locked with an exterior lock which was still locked and not tampered with. Thank you for all of your responses.

Lessons learned:
1. Trust your more experienced friends when they give advice (buy new tires before the initial haul home).
2. Have proper tools to change flat tire (truck jack worked but kicked my butt).
3. Always secure camper - even when it's so broke down you can't pull it. There maybe someone smarter or crazier than you to pull it away.

PS - How do I edit my thread title? I wanted to add "recovered" to the end.

Glad you got your trailer back.

Along with new tires get rid of that generator platform. The rear end of your trailer was not built for that. I would also check for rear end separation and generator platform related structural problems.

Thanks for the advice. I knew it didn't belong, but hadn't thought about problems it may have caused other than being an eyesore.
