Use the SPOT Trace which is an automatic device that transmits a message when your asset moves and/or once per day to let you know that everything is OK. The Gen 3 is a satellite messenger that you can use to send a position report along your track, but won't sit in standby until you move, like the TRACE.

I also use the Gen 3 when travelling to send "I'm OK" messages along with my coordinates when I push that button and sometimes use the tracking function (particularly when sailing off shore.) The Gen 3 also can send an SOS message in case you need to be rescued.

Here are the operating conditions from the manual. The last bullet point made me LOL : ) when thinking about using on an Airstream.

SPOT TRACE OPERATING CONDITIONS AND CLIMATE

Like all electronic devices, SPOT TRACE has its limits. SPOT TRACE relies on GPS and low Earth orbit satellites to x your asset’s location and send messages. The transmitter (located underneath the SPOT logo) needs to be pointed toward the sky, either outdoors or beneath fiberglass, fabric or glass. For safety, keep the following in mind regarding the care and usage of SPOT TRACE:
• IP67waterproof:Up to a depth of 1m for up to 30 minutes
• If using an External DC source, SPOT Trace will NOT be waterproof unless using the Waterproof–DC Power Cable (sold separately).
• Operating temperatures: -22 F to 140 F (-33 C to 60 C)
• Operating altitude: -328 ft to 21,320 ft (-100 m to 6,500 m)
• Humidity and Salt Fog rated
• If you exceed 700 mph (1126.54 km/h) (Mach1) GPS accuracy degrades

Hi

Does the Spot Trace work when it is in the Airtream? It seems according to the manual it would not; however, it seems you are using it and it works having it inside the Airstream.

Thanks

Country Boy it would be good to get your experience as well.

Thanks

It depends upon where it is located inside the trailer (with a clear sky view.)

Works very well and the batteries last a long time. (I turn it off when going from campsites to save battery life.)

Stolen Airstreams GPS Tracking & Deterrents

It works great. Mine even works while it’s in my garage under storage. Strong signal. I have to replace the batteries once every 12 months.

where do you place it inside an AS. the walls are metal , thus no sky view

it i place it by the skylight, then the thief would see it

thus i dont know where to place the device so that
1) it sees the sky and works and
2 ) cant be seen by thieves

Sorry that I prefer not to state where I put mine, but there are many places on the roof of the Airstream that are plastic (which provides an adequate "sky view") for the SPOT Trace to work perfectly. You can send a PM to me if you would like a more detailed explanation.
