Use the SPOT Trace which is an automatic device that transmits a message when your asset moves and/or once per day to let you know that everything is OK. The Gen 3 is a satellite messenger that you can use to send a position report along your track, but won't sit in standby until you move, like the TRACE.
I also use the Gen 3 when travelling to send "I'm OK" messages along with my coordinates when I push that button and sometimes use the tracking function (particularly when sailing off shore.) The Gen 3 also can send an SOS message in case you need to be rescued.
Here are the operating conditions from
the manual. The last bullet point made me LOL : ) when thinking about using on an Airstream.
SPOT TRACE OPERATING CONDITIONS AND CLIMATE
Like all electronic devices, SPOT TRACE has its limits. SPOT TRACE relies on GPS and low Earth orbit satellites to x your asset’s location and send messages. The transmitter (located underneath the SPOT logo) needs to be pointed toward the sky, either outdoors or beneath fiberglass, fabric or glass. For safety, keep the following in mind regarding the care and usage of SPOT TRACE:
• IP67waterproof:Up to a depth of 1m for up to 30 minutes
• If using an External DC source, SPOT Trace will NOT be waterproof unless using the Waterproof–DC Power Cable (sold separately).
• Operating temperatures: -22 F to 140 F (-33 C to 60 C)
• Operating altitude: -328 ft to 21,320 ft (-100 m to 6,500 m)
• Humidity and Salt Fog rated
• If you exceed 700 mph (1126.54 km/h) (Mach1) GPS accuracy degrades
