Steve, If I remember right Lojack was installed in your vehicle as a accessory. Then when stolen, the police activated it, and they found the vehicle for you. I looked into Lojack in the 80s when I had a 72 ss Camaro stolen with only 27k miles on the clock. I think Lojack is still around.

You could also use an old smart phone. Hide it in your trailer and use the locate function when needed.

The best I found in research was the Spot Trace. $50 to purchase (when on sale), $9 per month.

It's a GPS tracker, but it sends me a message everyday that my trailer is safe with a map and location. If it ,Ives, it also immediately send a text and email letting me know it moved.

Plus it is super small, and you can hide it so no one can see it. It also sends you a message when the batteries are getting low on power.

SPOT Trace - Asset Tracking

The huge problem with the DeWalt unit (and others like it) is that it sends the movement message through a cellular network; Therefore no cell service then no notification. The GPS feature is only used to determine location before sending the alert. (Maybe a lag issue too.)

However, the SPOT Trace sends any movement notification instantly through the satellite system. You can also have multiple email/sms addresses for notification. The system is very sensitive - it will trigger a motion alert during a thunderstorm. It is easy to turn off when you are in the trailer so you don't get unwanted alerts.

Use the SPOT Trace which is an automatic device that transmits a message when your asset moves and/or once per day to let you know that everything is OK. The Gen 3 is a satellite messenger that you can use to send a position report along your track, but won't sit in standby until you move, like the TRACE.

I also use the Gen 3 when travelling to send "I'm OK" messages along with my coordinates when I push that button and sometimes use the tracking function (particularly when sailing off shore.) The Gen 3 also can send an SOS message in case you need to be rescued.

Here are the operating conditions from the manual. The last bullet point made me LOL : ) when thinking about using on an Airstream.

SPOT TRACE OPERATING CONDITIONS AND CLIMATE

Like all electronic devices, SPOT TRACE has its limits. SPOT TRACE relies on GPS and low Earth orbit satellites to x your asset’s location and send messages. The transmitter (located underneath the SPOT logo) needs to be pointed toward the sky, either outdoors or beneath fiberglass, fabric or glass. For safety, keep the following in mind regarding the care and usage of SPOT TRACE:
• IP67waterproof:Up to a depth of 1m for up to 30 minutes
• If using an External DC source, SPOT Trace will NOT be waterproof unless using the Waterproof–DC Power Cable (sold separately).
• Operating temperatures: -22 F to 140 F (-33 C to 60 C)
• Operating altitude: -328 ft to 21,320 ft (-100 m to 6,500 m)
• Humidity and Salt Fog rated
• If you exceed 700 mph (1126.54 km/h) (Mach1) GPS accuracy degrades

Hi

Does the Spot Trace work when it is in the Airtream? It seems according to the manual it would not; however, it seems you are using it and it works having it inside the Airstream.

Thanks

Country Boy it would be good to get your experience as well.

Thanks

It depends upon where it is located inside the trailer (with a clear sky view.)

Works very well and the batteries last a long time. (I turn it off when going from campsites to save battery life.)
