Hi Norbert-
We did it this weekend as well and tried a number of things.
No luck. Finally I tried "Oops. " It is a product for removing dried latex paint. Works great . We tore off little strips of paper towels and saturated them with Oops. We laid them over the stickey for about 1.5 minutes. ( We found that timing was
important. If it dried it didnt work.) The Oops worked great and we are finally rid of the numbers.

Sell it at Home Depot, Loews, Walmart,etc.....

If you have an automotive paint store near you, they will sell a decal/striping remover and a separate adhesive remover, but it will be in larger spray or cans and therefore costs more.....if the OOPs doesn't get it done for you...lol...jem

NewNumbers....

The finished product. We're so proud. Painted the airstream nameplate with Rust-o-leum. Royal Blue.

OOPS, there goes your clearcoat!

I'd be leery of using a paint remover on a clearcoated '93.
Some other suggestions are on the following thread:

Decal Remover
