Spooky Advice

I need some real handyman or women advice. Our local State Park has a haunted house and all kinds of kids activities for Halloween and the turn out is great and they make lots of money for the park. Also during this time they have a hay ride through the camp sites and all the campers decorate there trailers and boy do they go all out. So this year we have decided to compete with the Airstream and I need some coool ideas. One of my ideas was to go out and get some dryer hose and paint black and make spider legs and someway attach to the trailer by the front since we have the tinted guard on the front window it would be like an eye. Let me here all your cool ideas and help me plan this.

Becky - As a former exhibit Director for a children's museum, I applaud your ingenuity. This is a cool idea. But... the dryer hose may not be large enough (diameter). There is a similar but larger diameter hose available for ventilation duct that would be great! It is available in up to 12 inch I.D. You might be able to get some from an HVAC installer - cheaper than from a big box store - they might even have some odds and ends around. It is silver in color and I would leave it unpainted.

Try doing something with orange and purple rope lights to increase the eerie factor. A string mounted under the trailer will do wonders. You might also have a rope running down each "leg". In the dark, you will need a little ambient light in order to see the creature!

Add some mouth parts under the eye - or some teeth. A recording of some slurping, chewing noises would add something as well. You want to offer something for all the senses...

Don't forget to liberally cover the site with large webs. Polyester quilt batting stretched and pulled makes good BIG webs - hang dead stuff in the webs.

black plastic drain tile from a farm store might do the trick. it comes in sizes like 4/5/6 inch in diameter. it is made from recycled plastic and is very inexpensive!

however, you may end up with a 250 foot roll! use the rest for downspout extensions for your house!

If you have two gas tanks, they could be the pinchers. The tongue could be...well the tongue.
