So is your Airstream a him or a her?
Our new Bambi needs a name and I like the idea of a female name. As we all know Bambi is a male so what to do? What is the thinking here among my fellow streamers?Bruce

As Airstreams enjoy a similar status as ships, a female name is most appropriate for a "her".

She. In our case, Wanda is her name.

Well, Duh! How could anything that pretty, curvy, voluptuous, enticing, etc. be anything but a "she"? In our case, she's the "Silver Lady" or just "SL" for short.

With our Navy background, we always think of all RV's and vehicles as female. However, the PO of Little Girl has an Air Force background, and she always referred to the airstream as a "he" as according to her, planes are always male. So, is your Bambi ship or a plane? Or, how about a name that's not gender specific?

I have always felt "she" is female, it is the Bambi thing that confused me.....
I an now convinced that we need a female name. Our current boat is "Esmeralde", a name given to our first boat when I purchased her from a man who had named her "Hummer". No way Hummer was going to stay ! Now we need another name, we will get there...

A friend of mine told me of a young lady named "Bambi". She was very good at what she did on stage. I'll let your imagination take over from there. And then there was the 007 movie where "Thumper" and "Bambi" worked over James Bond. Delightful young ladies.

Not sure why -- perhaps it's as their personalities developed. Our 1974 29 ft Ambassador is a "she" (Emma) and our 1966 20 ft Globe Trotter is a "he" (Newman).

Our last name is Modaffari. Our '77 '31 is a vehicle to be used and enjoyed by us as a family. Our away from home. Our own comfy, familiar bed wherever we choose it to be. Thus, it has been named 'The Mod Pod'

I dunno, the first song that popped up when I plugged my iphone into the stereo was "The Weight" by the Band. We looked at each other and laughed and laughed. After that it was sealed in stone. Can't say whether it"s a he-weight or a she-weight tho. I pulled into Nazereth...............

We are zeroing in on Lulu!
The name has multiple ties to our little Bambi. Lulu apparently means peaceful and that blends in nicely with the Zen theme of the Serenity series. There is also. the sort of loose play on the word aluminum. Then there was the "lulu" of a task of convincing my wife we needed an Airstream..... and I just kind of like it, it is cute!
Lulu she is!

We call ours "The Mary". We first had a 19' Bambi, then bought the new one - 28 feet long. It seemed huge at the time, and I thought it was like towing the Queen Mary.
Doesn't seem so large now, but the name remains.

Hi all: Anthropomorphism (the naming and gender association of inanimate things and natural forces) goes back to ancient times. Prevailing winds often portrayed as a man or woman blowing on marine charts. In french and many other languages many nouns are either male or female "La mer" (the sea) is female and Le Mond (the earth) is male. In english we use "it" and maybe that's why we personify our "units" because that just seems rude. I call my AS "Tinbad", not so much because I feel it's a he but more as something catchy and more so alluding to swashbuckling adventure.
