Scaled the rig today......

I thought it would weigh more, but I grossed 12,000# truck and trailer. (Empty water and black tank, full propane)

3200# Truck Front Axle (4500#)
3500# Truck Rear Axle (6084#)
5300# Airstream Tandems (7000#)

Numbers in parenthesis are mfg's ratings. Truck GVW is 9200, and the F & R add up to 10,584. I don't understand why, but that is what is on the door sticker.

This was with a plain ball hitch, no WD. My WD hitch is still 2" to high, so I cannot use it with this trailer.

On a side note, I can adjust my Jordan till it is at 13.8 amps all the way up, but I seem to have plenty of stopping power at 4-5 amps. I adjusted the brakes until I could not rotate the tires by hand, the backed it off 20 clicks.

It would've been interesting to weigh the truck alone to see how much weight is being lifted off the front axle, and how much the tongue weight was to see what percentage of it you're carrying.

I checked my GVWR on the door plate.

3600 # front
3686 # rear

Yet the vehicle GVWR is 6200 #

I pull a 71 SLY rear bath and suspect it is close to your 5300 #
While it looks as if you are well under the max I must be pushing it fully loaded.

1996 GMC extcab 350 V8 3:24 rear end.

Anyone know why the difference in what appears to be a
GVWR of 7286 on the axles and 6200 on the door rating ?????

It's the max axle weight not the max vehicle weight. It's the max weight that should ever be read on that axle. It has nothing to do with the max weigh the truck can carry.
If the truck was all loaded dirrectly over the rear axle with the total max cargo weight you might actually exceed the max rear axle weight even though your not over the max weight on the vehicle. Now if the weight was forward of the axle then the front axle is sharing part of the weight and the rear is carrying less.

Weight

Yeah == What the toaster said.

The manufacturers certified max weight has as much to do with what the transmission and drive train can consistantly handle, and more importrant, what the brakes can stop, than individual axel capacity.

It's a safety thing developed by intelligent people so corporate lawyers have their ass covered.

The certifying engineers know what they're doing, that's why they are paid the big bucks. With the designers being cramped from both ends (more hauling capacity for the consumers with less vehicle weight for the corporate gas mileage and emissions ratings), it's more important than ever not to bust the pillar plate ratings.
