Electric Cord & the Storage Compartment

When I was hooking up this past weekend getting ready for the return trip home, I remembered how we almost had the cord bounce out of the storage compartment while traveling one time.

Our storage compartment doesn't have a latch on it so I've learned how to pack the cord so I won't need to worry about it bouncing out of the back while going down the road.

After placing the water hose/hoses in the storage compartment in a way that takes up the least amount of space, (I try and do this by placing them in first and not allowing them to crisscross with each other) I then will crisscross the electric cord so that several parts of it is underneath the sides while it makes a loop and crosses back to repeat the process again on the other end until its all tucked away nice and cozy. Since Iíve been doing this I havenít had any problems with it trying to bounce out of the compartment.

Why didnít they just use latches on the storage compartment?
