Posse, there are Jeep GC rated to tow over twice the 3500 its you mentioned, and excellent fully independent suspensions to keep it all going straight. This Jeep GC suspension was designed by Mercedes, nothing like the solid axle great off-road genuine Jeeps. The Jeep name here is a marketing thing, Dodge Durango uses the same setup in a little longer wheelbase.

Nonetheless, the accident was caused by very heavy weight hung back over the back of the Airstream, it could have taken anything off the road. Proper loading matters, heavy weight near the trailer axles, light weight at the ends, at least 10% on the hitch.

Were the occupants okay?

Occupants, unknown. I was well ahead of the incident and there was plenty of traffic following. Backing up was not an option. But the look of the hitch going L-R-L-R in a swaying motion and the hitch was higher, had the trailer tongue above level on an unknown SUV just looked like an uncomfortable situation.

Incorrect. The Jeep Grand Cherokee has a base tow rating of 5,000 lbs, and properly equipped from the factory, up to 7,400 lbs. This has been the case at least since the 2005 model year.

In fact, the JGC is an excellent tow vehicle. I used a 2015 JGC to pull my 25 FB across country....it was a pleasure to tow. The only issue is payload - it just doesn't offer enough payload capacity to allow much more than a driver, passenger, and the trailer. That's a convenience issue, not a safety issue - you have to respect the weight limits, which means you have to leave stuff home. But loaded properly, it's a safe and comfortable TV.

Jim, I was going to comment on that incorrect information but you beat me too it.

Just watched this video, while the craftsmanship is to notch and the video is really well done, I wonder how much of an issue he has created for himself. If you look at 8:18 in, it doesn't look very light and I imagine adding some high end bikes will only make it worse.

At least his tow vehicle looks like it can handle it, somewhat.
