Question about a possible Airstream purchase

Hello, and thanks in advance for any assistance. There is a 1993 Airstream Land Yacht for sale local to me for what seems to be a good deal, but I wanted to get some opinions. It is a man selling his brothers estate, and it's listed for $3000. I won't be able to get in it to crank it or see the inside until this weekend but I went by the storage facility where it's stored and looked at the outside. The main concern I had is that about 5 or 6 feet from the back there is a seam going from top to bottom on both sides of the RV. It looks like it cracked it the same place on both sides. One side looks superficial but the other side looks like there was some attempt to patch it. I don't know if there is a known issue with these campers, or does it sound like a possible accident happened. I'm going to upload a pic I took of it in a few minutes once my phone charges. Thanks again

A couple of possibilities spring to mind.

1. Rear frame separation ( various possible causes) which is bad.

2. Collision damage, perhaps dragged over a very steep curb, or backed into a ditch or...(very bad).

I wouldn't touch it.

2916 is probably right, but I would still take a close look with someone who might be more familiar with what to look for. Doesn't sound too promising though. Good luck!

I think the OP is talking about a Land Yacht Motorhome! Looking at pictures of that vintage MH's, I don't see a seam or joint running vertically on them. Perhaps an owner of one of these Motor Homes might be able to offer some input. It would be helpful if you have somebody that is familiar with MH's go with you and have a look. Good luck!!! Chris

Those things could have a delamination problem, and the fiberglass sides could have separated to the point they cracked. The main cause of delamination is water intrusion, for example from a roof leak into the walls.
The price is right, as long as there's nothing very seriously wrong with it. The engine, transmission, and generator are worth that, if they are in working order.

Repairable, be concerned about the drive train. Maintenance records for engine and transmission, brakes, dash ac , etc. price seems good. Peace, jim
