prowd new owner of an old timer

Happy 4th everyone. finally made the jump and purchased a 1966 ambassador 28'. Not in the best condition, so going to renovate the whole thing (hopefully with the shell on). But I can't complain for 700 bucks. the floors need replacing and the entire inside will be redone. I found some rusted through streamers but hopefully it's not too bad when I get the plywood up. I will post the pics I have and more as I dive into it. Any advice would be much appreciated.

P.S. How do you upload photos on you discussions?

Welcome, dave83.

The only thing I can answer is the picture question. Below the "Quick Reply" box, click on "Go Advanced". Scroll down and you'll see a place to upload photos.

(Is there minimum post count required before pictures can be uploaded?)

Dave, sounds like you have a project.

If you have a Flickr or Photobucket account, you can always link to the images there. You need to copy the image address (not the URL). That is done on Flickr by finding the 'View All Sizes' button, selecting the size you want, then right clicking on it. You should see something that says 'Copy Image Address" or a similar statement. That's what you want.

Then in your build thread, click on the picture icon and paste the address in the dialog box that pops up...

Here's a couple from my Flickr stream...

It just takes a few seconds...

Hey, Dave - Congrats and Good Luck with the "Re-Do"! We are in the midst of renovating our '64 Safari and I'd be glad to help you with answers (problems..!?) and situations as much as we can.

Congrats

You definitely may want to consider a shell off before you start any new work. We just finished gutting our '64 Overlander and will be taking it to Colin Hyde for the shell off work, frame, and axles. Once that is completed I'll do the finish work myself. You can see some pics and information on our blog site Our Airstream Restoration – Chrome Twinkie

Best of luck and hope to see you down the road!

Dave, their are allot people in the forum who are very smart. You will not go wrong with their advice. I have been reading this forum for many years. If it wasn't for the members compassion and dedication to Airstreams; I wouldn't have had bought mine.

Welcome Aboard, and congratulations!
Sounds like you got a really good deal. If you cant find an old thread topic when you are looking for an answer, just ask. Someone will help. We all really enjoy our hobby and like to help when we can.

I'm hopping to keep the shell on. I've pulled the walls and the first section of floor. kinda rusty but i'm not sure if it's too bad. used lock tight rust converter and then a coat of rostolium. going to try and start a flicker account so I can link the pics. the real problem I'm running into right now is trying to figure out how to switch around the bathroom. My wife wants the bathroom in the front and bedroom in the back.

Congrats! We own the exact same trailer and just love it. We are new to this as well.

The black tank is small (and no grey tank) so you should address this if you can now. We use a "blue boy" to combat this issue now.

Can't wait to see yours in the road!
