popane bottle

I tried the search but didnt get it. assuming a 30# lb bottle holds 30#, with the new opd valve installed, does it now hold 80% or 24 #? Im trying to get a handle on propane cost...and topping off a tank not completely mt please give me a feed back or do you run the tanks dry to insure accurate replacement cost(honest) i tried several vendors and get several answers dont you know....

A #30 aluminum tank holds #30 pounds with an OPD valve and sending gauge. You will never run out.
Price is about $ 180.00 plus freight and or tax where ever you live. Try Airstream dreams, they will get what you need.

p.s. i also went to a place in the city..was told 5# in tank at time.....charged me 7 bucks for the topping off.. my bbq bottle feeels heavier....also found gauge on bottle defective...it read half full or should i say half mt..

Norbert,

Try to find a place that will sell to you by the gallon. If memory serves the 30# tank hods 7.5 gallons. By the gallon is the only real way to compare prices. Most Flying J locations will sell by the gallon, or you can ask if they will do it that way.

I top off the motorhome a few times a year, I would freak if they wanted to charge me for a full tank every time, it holds close to 20 gallons.

Right now here in Colorado I'm finding 2 dollars a gallon is the going price and some places charge 50 cents per pound. I was told a 20 pound cook grill bottle is 5 gallons. The bottom line is 15 bucks fills the 30 pound bottle. Most places charge 15 bucks before they even put it on the scale, doesn't seem to matter. I'm glad I don't have to pay for a full tank of gas everytime I fill up my truck.

Around "here" they charge between $18-$22 to fill an empty 30# bottle at hardware AND propane distributers. Our local Flying J charges $1.40 a gallon, so it is around $10 there. Corner store started charging $22 for 20# exchanges when the OPD law went into effect.

I have noticed that not all Flying J's charge by the gallon. The one North of Columbus on I71 uses a scale.

thanx pick...

yesterday i had a 30#der topped off ichecked it this morning with a not so accurate bathroom scale( thats why my weight doesnt change ) any how the scale said 45# and the aluminum tank says it weighs 16.5# one would deduce it to be full but it just doesnt feel like its filled.......

thanx to all replies..

apprently the worlds nicest guy got schmuckd...but thats how we learn....i guess i sstruggled with stupidity and stupipity made me a little (not wiser, but street smart) the propane hose was attached, but the bleed valve was not open.....apparently i had 25# of air in the bottle...word......to yo mama....im just another dunce...dont let the bastards wear you down.....
p.s.an inordinate amount of air in the bottle makes the gauge not to function....
