Tire pressure monitoring.
Hello Everyone,
Has anyone tried, or still using, a tire pressure monitoring system? I tried to search this question in previous posts and found nothing, so if this has been answered before please tell me where.

I use the PressurePro tire monitoring system. If I can be of any help, let me know. It's worth the investment, especially for a single axle trailer.

Schrader (AirAware) is producing the majority of the TPMS used in new cars. They have a kit for cars but say not recommended for trailers. I contacted them to ask why and as expected it's because the radio transmitter in the valve stem isn't designed to reach far enough. However, they do have a booster system in the works which will mount in the trailer and relay the signal to the car. It will register temperature and pressure in each tire. Looks like a pretty good system.

I'll second what SilverRanger says...well worth it...we've used PressurePros since Dec07 ...check out the threads listed above...there is a lot of discussion...PressurePros (or similar products) are used by many Airstreamers...
Good luck!

can hardly wait
... for my Doran 360RV to arrive next Tuesday. Based on this and other threads/reports, I ordered a 6-sensor configuration (single axle Safari + TV) in preparation of an upcoming up-the-California-coast and through-the-Sierras loop for Labor Day week.
Hopefully I'll only be reporting on how at ease I am with the system.
Cheers,
-jd.

I love my Pressure Pro system. I have had it over a year now and its just great. For one thing I don't have to use a gauge and check the tires before leaving on a trip. It tells me the pressure of each one from the drivers seat. Then on the road I can monitor each tire as I drive.
What I really like is the fact that it also gives me the tires temperature. Tires that blow out usually get very hot before exploding. Knowing the temps is a good indicator of pending problems.
I just ordered two more sensors for my tow dolly, and a relay to extend the range of the system.

We ordered our Pressure Pro system today. We have heard nothing but good remarks about this system. I learned a trick this past weekend when we had some friends staying with us and they have the Pressure Pro. If you don't have the sensors pretty tight you will cause the tire to leak air and set off the monitor.
Hope to have the system installed when we head for the rally at Lake Heron, NM.

For what it's worth, here's a tip. I recently had new tires and metal valve stems installed. I was there during the installation, and showed the service manager my sensors and asked him if the tires should be balanced with the sensors on. He said "absolutely", and allowed me into the shop to install them before them just before they balanced the tires. I had heard the weight of the sensors was negligible, but apparently not.

SilverRanger...Good move...we did the same thing....metal valve stems and balancing with the sensors in place.

Pressure Monitoring
We had the metal stems put on too when we put on our new tires. We have driven many miles without them but...it only takes one time.
Terry I have read in your travel log that you have found low tires with the monitor and that helped us to make the choice. Also when you take long trips and forget to check the tires every stop.
See you in Heron. Bob

Since 2005
Pressure pros can save you their expense in blown out plumbing valves or aluminum skin damage in case of a tire shredding episode. We've had ours for four years and have yet to change batteries. Careful attention to the installation instructions will make installation very easy.
Another 'wheel item' worthy of consideration would be Centramatic automatic wheel balancers used by over the road truckers. They're relatively inexpensive, easy to install and another good insurance move. Painting them flat black prior to installation will allow the spokes of your Alcoa wheels to retain their spoked appearance.
Good luck with all of your 'wheel' decisions.
