Poll - "vintage" news articles

I've posted most of the short clips from our copy of The Caravanner. The paper is only eight pages, but it is packed full of news (no full page ads!) in fine print.

There are some remaining articles of interest, each of which is several columns. Since they are long and cumbersome to post, I don't want to post all of them.

I'm trying my first poll to see which two or three articles folks are most interested in seeing. Please weigh in if you have a preference!

I wonder if Helen Byam Schwamborn, the editor, was Wally's daughter?

Is she still living?

And was the Bakersfield Calif. address hers or Wally's?

Did this publication become the Blue Beret?

Shari and I are in the same recovery group. We're not recovering, mind you, we are just recoverers of vintage stuff. We recover it where ever we can

I vote for posting them all whenever its convenient for you. I sure enjoy reading them and imagining their adventures.

Why not do 'em all? On one thread, titled The Caravanner, 1957.
Post all items from it, and then close the thread. Everyone can see them, and the thread won't get clogged with replies.

Is she (Helen Byam Schwamborn) still living?
She is listed in the 2004 WBCCI Membership Directory, her membership number is #02 and her list of caravans is quite impressive.

I assume, hers...it appears to be the same now as in '57

It would be nice to know what major (RVing) issues they faced then as do we now.

Helen Byam Schwamborn

Wally Byam had no children. Helen is in her late nineties, still living (at last report) in Bakersfield, California, and is a relative of Wally (a cousin I think, but not sure). She was a contemporary of Wally and is the other woman posing with Stella Byam (Wally's wife) in bathing suits next to one of his early masonite trailers. She has an impressive resume to say the least, and has WBCCI membership #2.

Thanks all for the feedback so far.

For Shari and FF:
A friend in my vintage anonymous group shared this with me, and I found it helpful. Maybe you will, too!

Wally,
This day grant me
The serenity to accept the airstreams I cannot restore,
The courage to restore the ones I can, and
The wisdom to know the difference.

I vote to see them all too! I've really been enjoying the things you've posted so far! Sounds like that Caravanner is quite a find. Can't wait to see more...

Does anyone know if the Ohio facility has copies of these Caravanners? Be great to get them posted to share as well.

Forrest,
Thanks for the history about Helen Byam Schwanborn. I had assumed, along with others, that she was a daughter. When will I learn not to assume anything?

The people have spoken...

Andy has now provided 10MB of space for our photo galleries! This has allowed me to upload the the Dec.,1957, issue of the Caravanner in its entirety. It took a few hours to prepare and upload everything, but it was a big time-saver over cutting and pasting excerpts into individual threads. Now folks can read it whenever they want. I enjoyed the poll; it's still open for a week and a half, but not really much point in it now...maybe I'll post a poll about favorite articles in the Caravanner.

That was Great!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting the Caravanner! I loved reading it. I've heard and read about Wally's Bubble, but didn't know it'd had been put up for sale (I guess I assumed the factory kept it). Does anyone know what ever became of it? AND I never knew there had been a "shower" model with separate his and her shower and toilet! PLEAZZE! If you have anymore issues post them too!

Forrest
