Thumbs up Picking up your new Airstream from the factory

Anyone out there done this? I talked with the factory this past week and they said it is possible, but they don't do it a lot.

Any pros/cons to doing this?

Eric

I think that if I ever get another, I just might pick it up at the factory. I understand you can even get there early and see it being built. That would be really neat.
There was a Classic at the dealer last week that had a lot of damage to the point of screws pulling out of solid wood and the shower door dislodged. The dealer is going to patch it up and the new owner will have no idea that it absorbed some big impact during transit.

I would rather pack the essentials in the truck and pick it up fresh off the line.

Unless they have changed things in the last year or two you can't.
I called Airstream just prior to ordering my Safari and was told yes. My dealer said that they didn't offer it any more. Apparently the dealer is responsible for the cost of the pre sale prep to the trailer. If its done at the factory, they have to absorb that cost.

Bottom line I eventually talked to the Airstream Director of Sales who told me that they didn't offer that option and that the customer service agent who I talked to would be informed of their error.

As it ended up my dealer Walbernized my trailer before delivery and we spent the night at the dealer's so that any problems would be resolved before we took the trailer home. We had one of the employees spend two hours going over everything and also found a chilled bottle of champaign in the cold refrigerator.

Thumbs up I would too!

I'd like to spend a couple of days, after picking her up, and travel to a couple of local campgrounds. I'd completely run her through dry & wet camping. Looking for any loose or missed items.

I'd rather go back and give the factory my punch-out list, than the dealer.

John

p.s. there's always something that was over looked!

I tallked to Andrea at Airstream sales and she said that they don't like to do it, but if a customer insisted, it could be done. The freight charges still might apply, but as of Friday, this was the answer I was given.

strange every time i have been at jackson center there was some one there picking their new unit up. i didnt dream that . i thought it was an option when you bought a new what ever. it would keep a lot of work and effort away from the jackson center staff. ever try to get an appointment for work next month maybe. long list to get any work done . one thing for sure you know it has been fixed when you leave jackson center or that has been my experience. another observation, the staff has a lot of years on them, they not spring chikens. lol

Thumbs up

Eric Let us know,
When I spoke to Vickie on 8/11 she said that I could not pick it up b/c the dealer that I ordered it from would have to prep it.
Would like to know what you find out...
Abe

Well, it might not be until Jan till I place the order if I do this. I try to buy at the off times. When or if I do, I'll be sure to post what really happened.
