PAX and the Bambi

Well I held off as long as I could, but last week had to plow in front of Bambi, but not too close. I noticed the snow around sides and back is over the top of the bottom of Airstream. We are expecting 18" more on Thursday. Do I need to go shovel snow away from sides and back? Two prior storms were ice so things are pretty frozen. I have not been inside in a month, everything covered in ice and temps really low. I am concerned water could seep in bottom seams by belly pan.

I am not new to trailers but my others were higher off ground and we never had these types of storms.

I lived in a trailer as a kid in northern Maine. Year-round. In the winter we made a point of piling up snow against the trailer for insulation value, turning the trailer into a sort of igloo.

If you shovel snow away from the trailer, you can't necessarily get it all without risking damage to the trailer's skin from nicking it with the snow shovel. So unless you have to go inside the trailer, and unless you have to turn on the heat inside, I'd recommend leaving well enough alone until it starts to thaw, and then using a soft-bristle broom or brush to whisk the snow away.

Oh, and do not turn on the heat in the trailer to melt the snow faster; that's an invitation to the very leaks you're worried about. Let the snow melt from the outside in, not the inside out.

Oh, thank you so much. I tried getting to it today and was waist deep. The sideways photo up top is mine. I used a mac, everything was rotated correctly, I posted and boom sideways. I do keep the Airstream in a pretty sunny place, it is just new to me and over whelming.

If I had that much snow, I'd probably want to try to dig the snow out from the lower sides - i.e., near the ground, so that the snow above it falls down. But, you're a lot more likely to damage the camper using the shovel than the snow will, so keep that in mind - if it's ice or going to be a problem to move, just let it go. I have a nasty scratch on the back bumper of my beloved Mercury Cougar, from hitting it with a shovel while digging out from a snowstorm in 2003, when I didn't even need to use the car.
